To change a directly billed Netflix plan, open Netflix’s Change Plan page in a browser, choose a plan, continue or update, and confirm. An upgrade starts immediately; a downgrade starts on your next billing date. If Netflix is billed through a provider package, the provider’s rules may limit which plans you can choose.
Change your plan on a directly billed account
- Open Netflix’s Change Plan page in a browser and sign in if prompted.
- Select the plan you want, then choose Continue or Update.
- Review the change and select Confirm Change or Confirm.
The labels may vary depending on the flow Netflix presents. The change is not complete until you confirm it.

When the change takes effect and how billing works
Upgrading
A higher-priced plan takes effect immediately. Netflix says the billing date may shift to account for the remaining balance from your previous payment, or it may charge a prorated amount for the balance. Check the confirmation screen and your account billing details for the amount and timing that apply to you. Netflix explains upgrade timing and billing.
Downgrading
A lower-priced plan takes effect on your next billing date. Until then, you can continue using the features of your current, higher-priced plan. Netflix explains downgrade timing.

If you can’t find or use the change-plan option
Netflix identifies several reasons the standard plan-change flow may be unavailable:
- The account is on hold or paused.
- You are using a Kids profile. Switch to a non-Kids profile before opening the Change Plan page.
- The account is billed through a partner or included in a provider package, so changes may need to go through that provider.
For a provider-billed account, check the package’s instructions and contact the provider if a requested change is declined. Package terms can prevent downgrading below the plan included with the package or choosing a plan the provider does not offer. A package plan change may take effect immediately, while the price difference or new price appears on the next provider bill; the exact timing and charges depend on the package. Netflix provides examples of provider-specific billing arrangements in its guidance for Comcast Xfinity packages and Cox billing.
