NodeLane Comics is an early browser-extension project that aims to bring manga from supported websites, Google Drive, and local files into one reader, with translation available as an optional feature. It also describes a way to display translated pages directly on supported websites without importing the comic. Its author says site coverage and translation stability are still being improved, so treat it as a project to explore rather than a proven all-in-one reader.
What NodeLane Comics is designed to do
In a September 26, 2026 announcement on DEV Community, the author describes NodeLane Comics as a browser extension for collecting manga from several kinds of sources in a reader library. The described sources are supported manga websites, Google Drive, and files on your device.
The project announcement describes these reader features:
- Importing local CBZ, CBR, and PDF files, plus DRM-free MOBI files.
- Saving reading progress.
- Checking supported websites for new chapters.
- Searching for titles across languages on selected websites.
These are the author’s feature descriptions, not independently verified results. The announcement does not identify the supported websites or give a complete list of languages for cross-language search.

How translation works
Translation is optional: the author says you can use NodeLane Comics just as a reader. The extension is described as offering translation through a cloud service or by connecting to a separate, running manga-translator-ui instance. It does not run local translation models itself.
The author also describes displaying translated manga images on supported web pages without first importing the comic into NodeLane’s library. This is distinct from reading and translating items stored in the library; the announcement does not detail which sites support this page-level feature or how well it works.

The project is described as using TypeScript, React, and WXT for the extension, with a FastAPI backend. The author says frontend and backend code are public on GitHub; the announcement links to the code from its project post.

The author characterizes the project as early and says they are working to support more websites and improve stability, particularly for translation. That caveat matters if your reading routine depends on a particular source or consistent translated pages.

- Translation quality: No measured accuracy, speed, or reliability results are reported.

- Availability: The post links to a Chrome extension and public code, but its current store listing status and version are not established by the announcement.
A similarly themed project, Libre Manga Translator, documents a different architecture. Its features and technical claims should not be taken as evidence about NodeLane Comics.

NodeLane Comics may interest readers who want a single place to organize web manga and personal files, or who want an optional translation path rather than a translation-only extension. Before relying on it, check whether your regular websites are supported and whether the translation setup fits your needs. If you plan to use cloud translation, look for service-specific information about data handling; the project announcement does not provide those details.
The author asks readers whether they mainly read manga on websites, from local files, or a mix, and invites feedback on what feels useful, confusing, or missing in both the reader and translation experience. You can share that feedback on the DEV Community announcement.
