You can make OsmAnd feel more familiar by adjusting its map style, labels, visible details, widgets, and navigation display. The result is a personal approximation—not a verified replica of Google Maps. Start in the profile you actually use, then tune the map and screen separately; the exact controls can vary by platform and app version.
Start with the profile you want to change
OsmAnd keeps map settings and screen layouts in profile-specific configurations. Switch to the profile you use for the task—such as general map browsing or navigation—before making changes. That way, you are adjusting the layout where you expect to see it.
Map appearance and layers are under Menu → Configure map. On Android and iOS, some sections or labels differ; look for the equivalent map-style or map-rendering controls if your version uses another path. Choose a base map style
In Configure map, open Map style and choose a built-in vector style with a level of detail and visual character that suits you. OsmAnd provides styles for different uses, but its documentation does not identify one as a Google Maps clone. Think of the style as a starting point, then adjust the map’s other visual controls to suit your preferences. See Map Styles (Vector Maps) for the documented choices.

Make roads and labels easier to read
Use the map controls to tune visual hierarchy rather than trying to copy another app’s exact appearance. The available options include map mode, road style, magnification, text size, and map language; the precise controls can depend on platform and version. OsmAnd’s Vector Maps guide explains these options.
- Map mode: Choose the light or dark behavior that works for your surroundings and viewing preference.
- Road style: Where available, adjust the way roads are rendered to make the routes you care about stand out.
- Magnification and text size: Increase either if roads or place names are hard to distinguish. Larger labels and a more magnified view can also make the map feel busier.
- Map language: Use this to control the spelling of displayed names. It changes label language, not the underlying map style.
Very low magnification can make vector maps look noisy or feel slow, according to OsmAnd’s guide. If the result seems cluttered, try a more moderate setting and reassess before changing several controls at once.

Choose which map details remain visible
In Configure map, use Details and Hide to control which map objects appear. Removing details you do not need can make the map easier to scan. Add a layer only when its extra information is useful: layers are overlays, so they do not replace or redefine the underlying map style. Reduce screen clutter and arrange useful controls
Open Menu → Configure screen to choose which widgets and buttons appear and, where supported, how buttons look. Keep the information you use and hide controls that add clutter. You can also configure custom buttons to expose frequently used quick actions. Widget visibility and order are profile-dependent, so check the profile you selected before editing. OsmAnd documents the relevant controls in its Configure Screen guide and gives examples in Map Widgets.

Tune the navigation map separately
Navigation has its own map-appearance controls. For the navigation profile, open Menu → Settings → App profiles → Navigation settings → Map during navigation to review the route line and related display options. Paths and labels may differ by app version, so use the equivalent navigation-map section if necessary. OsmAnd documents advanced route-line customization as a Pro feature; check availability in your current platform and version before relying on it. See Map Screen During Navigation.
Import a custom style if built-in options are not enough
For a more tailored appearance, OsmAnd supports custom rendering styles. You can import a .render.xml file or an .osf package, then select the resulting style. Editing rendering rules can change colors and other map behavior, but it is an advanced option; ordinary map and screen settings are usually the more straightforward place to begin. The import options are covered in Map Styles (Vector Maps), while Map Rendering style – .render.xml describes rendering-style rules.

Compare the result one group of settings at a time
To refine the map without losing track of what changed, compare your original and adjusted views using the same place and viewing conditions. Change one group of settings at a time, then check:
- Base map style
- Light or dark mode
- Road contrast
- Label size and language
- Visible map details
- Widget and button clutter
- Navigation route-line appearance
This makes it easier to keep the changes that improve familiarity and undo those that make the map harder to read. Menu paths and feature availability can shift between platforms and releases, so follow the labels in your installed version.
