Choose Dreamweaver if you want code editing combined with visual web-authoring tools, including Live View; choose Sublime Text if you want an editor-first workflow. Neither is a universal winner: the better fit depends on how you build websites, what tools you need in the editor, and whether you prefer a subscription or a license purchase.
How Dreamweaver and Sublime Text differ
Adobe positions Dreamweaver as web design software for working with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and more. Its product description highlights code hints and visual aids, as well as Live View editing, starter templates, a customizable workspace, and Git support. Those are Adobe’s descriptions of its features, not independent performance findings.
Sublime Text is an editor-first alternative. A secondary comparison describes its workflow around features such as multiple selections, a command palette, and “Goto Anything.” These descriptions can help frame the choice, but they are not a current official feature specification or a hands-on comparison. Choose Dreamweaver for code and visual web authoring together
Dreamweaver is the more natural fit if you want a web-authoring environment that brings code editing and visual aids together. Live View may be useful when you want to work with a visual representation of a page as part of the editing workflow, while code hints and starter templates support work in common web languages. Adobe also lists Git support, so the product includes a stated version-control feature; this alone does not establish how it compares with another editor’s tooling.

Choose Sublime Text for an editor-first approach
Sublime Text is worth considering if you prefer a coding editor rather than an application centered on visual web authoring. The secondary comparison points to multiple selections, a command palette, and “Goto Anything” as workflow features. Because the available descriptions here do not establish Sublime Text’s current official feature set, platform requirements, or latest build, confirm that its present capabilities suit your projects before choosing it.
What do they cost?
Adobe lists Dreamweaver at US$22.99 per month on an annual plan billed monthly for the US offer. Adobe also describes a seven-day free trial. These terms are specific to the stated US offer and may change; check the Dreamweaver product page and trial page for current availability and checkout terms. Do not assume this annual commitment is equivalent to a month-to-month plan that can be canceled at any time.

Sublime Text’s official store says, “Sublime Text may be downloaded and evaluated for free, however a license must be purchased for continued use.” The store information cited here does not establish a current price, license duration, or detailed license terms, so review the official store before budgeting.

Check system compatibility before installing
Adobe’s system requirements page applies to the July 2026 release, version 21.8.1. It lists Windows 10 version 1903 or later (64-bit) and Windows 11, and macOS 13, 14, 15, and 26. Adobe lists 2 GB of RAM as the minimum and 4 GB as recommended on both platforms. It also says an internet connection and registration are required for activation, subscription validation, and online services. See Adobe’s Dreamweaver system requirements and verify them against the release you intend to install.

- Decide whether visual authoring is part of your workflow. If you want Live View and visual aids alongside code, Dreamweaver’s stated feature set is the closer match.
- Decide whether you want an editor-first tool. If you prefer that approach, assess Sublime Text against the current features and workflows you need.
- Check your operating system and release. For Dreamweaver, compare your device with Adobe’s release-specific requirements; for Sublime Text, verify current compatibility with Sublime HQ.
