You can’t merge two existing Google Chrome profiles with a single built-in command. Chrome keeps profile data separate. To consolidate selected information, use Chrome Sync for data associated with the same Google Account, or export bookmarks from one profile and import them into another. These methods move or sync specific data; they do not combine every setting and piece of local profile data into one complete profile.
Choose a transfer method based on what you need
A Chrome profile is a separate browser environment. A Google Account is an account Chrome can use to sync selected information. Signing in to a Google website does not, by itself, mean that the profile’s local data has synced.
| What you need | Best-supported option | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Selected data associated with the same Google Account | Chrome Sync | Selected data can be made available in Chrome profiles signed in to that account. This is account sync, not a merger of two profiles or two Google Accounts. Google’s sign-in and data overview |
| Bookmarks from one profile, especially between different accounts | Export and import a bookmarks HTML file | Transfers bookmarks and folder structure in the file; review how they appear alongside existing destination bookmarks. Google’s bookmark import and export instructions |
| All local profile state, including every extension’s private data or cookies | No complete supported merge procedure is established in the cited Google guidance | Do not assume Sync or bookmark import will transfer every local item. |
Use Chrome Sync when the data belongs to the same Google Account
Sync is the practical route when the information you want is already associated with one Google Account and you want it available in the destination profile. Google lists bookmarks, passwords, payment information, extensions, web apps, and settings among the categories users can save. History and open tabs are controlled separately in Chrome settings. Google’s Chrome Sync overview and device data and sync options describe these categories.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute- Open Chrome in the profile you want to keep, then sign in to Chrome with the Google Account that holds the data. Use Chrome’s profile control to confirm you are in the intended profile; signing in to a website alone is not the same as signing in to Chrome. How sign-in with your Google Account works in Chrome
- Review the sync options in Chrome settings and enable the categories you need. If history or open tabs matter, make sure those options are enabled as well; they are separately configurable.
- If you use a custom Sync passphrase, have it available to enter in the destination profile. Google says the passphrase is required on devices using that encrypted sync data. With a passphrase, only addresses entered in Chrome’s address bar sync as history; other browsing history is not available through Sync. Google’s passphrase and sync details
- Check the destination profile to confirm that the specific items you need are available before making changes to the source profile.
Sync does not combine data from two Google Accounts into one, and Google’s guidance does not describe it as a full merger of separate local profiles. If your data is split between accounts, use Sync for the data tied to the account you choose and transfer bookmarks separately where needed.

Transfer bookmarks with an HTML file
Bookmark export and import is a direct option when you want to move bookmarks between profiles, including profiles signed in to different accounts. It transfers the bookmarks represented in the exported file, not passwords, history, extensions, or other profile data. Follow Google’s current bookmark import and export steps if the labels in your Chrome version differ.
- In the source profile, open Chrome’s Bookmark Manager and use its menu to export bookmarks. Save the resulting HTML file somewhere you can find it.
- In the destination profile, use Chrome’s bookmark import flow and select the exported HTML file.
- Open the imported folders and inspect the destination’s bookmark organization. If the destination already has bookmarks, review the result rather than assuming Chrome will combine folders exactly as you intend.
- If you are moving between computers, carry the HTML file using a method you trust. A USB flash drive is one option; it carries only the exported bookmark file, not the Chrome profile.
Verify the destination before deleting the old profile
Check the destination profile for each category you intend to keep: bookmarks, passwords, history, open tabs, extensions, and settings. The available Google guidance does not guarantee transfer of every local item, cookie, or extension-specific data, so verify what matters to you rather than treating a successful sign-in as proof that everything moved.
