NETO se presenta como un chat peer-to-peer para equipos de desarrollo que comparten una red local: según su creador, David Arturo Silva Baldellon, no requiere cuentas ni servidores en la nube y usa mDNS para encontrar otros equipos en esa red. Son características descritas por el autor, no garantías verificadas de forma independiente. La información disponible tampoco confirma sus plataformas, su estado actual ni cómo protege los mensajes.
Qué es NETO y para quién está pensado
NETO está planteado para que desarrolladores conectados a una misma red local puedan comunicarse directamente, sin depender de un servicio central de chat. Su enfoque puede interesar a un equipo que quiera probar una alternativa local para conversaciones de trabajo, pero la descripción por sí sola no permite concluir que sea adecuado para intercambiar credenciales o información sensible.
La premisa de red compartida importa: el material del creador no establece que NETO conecte participantes que están en redes distintas. Tampoco confirma si puede funcionar sin conexión a Internet; que se describa como local y sin nube no basta para afirmar que opere sin conectividad externa en todos los casos.

Descubrimiento en la red local
El autor describe el uso de DNS multicast (mDNS) para que las instancias de NETO detecten otros pares en la red local, sin que los usuarios tengan que introducir manualmente direcciones IP. El alcance de ese descubrimiento dependerá de la red y de su configuración; la descripción disponible no detalla qué ocurre en redes segmentadas, con aislamiento de clientes o con reglas que bloquean multicast.

Comunicación entre pares y claves
Las descripciones del autor mencionan comunicación directa entre pares e intercambio criptográfico de claves. - Comprobar que existe una versión disponible y que es compatible con los sistemas operativos de todos los participantes.
- Verificar si los integrantes deben estar en la misma subred y si la configuración de red permite el tráfico mDNS necesario.
- Entender cómo se incorporan los pares y cómo se verifica que una clave pertenece a la persona esperada.
- Preguntar si los mensajes se conservan localmente, si se transmiten por algún servicio y qué ocurre al cerrar o reiniciar la aplicación.
- Buscar documentación técnica y una revisión de seguridad independiente antes de usarlo para datos confidenciales.
La pregunta que plantea el autor —si el equipo comparte credenciales por un chat— apunta a un riesgo real de manejo, pero cambiar de aplicación no convierte automáticamente ese intercambio en seguro. Para secretos de acceso, es preferible utilizar un mecanismo de gestión de secretos diseñado para compartirlos con controles de acceso y revocación, en lugar de tratarlos como mensajes ordinarios.
