The Galaxy S22 Ultra is the better fit if you want a high-resolution QHD+ display, an S Pen built into the phone and Samsung’s dual-telephoto camera hardware. The OPPO Reno16 5G offers a 3.5x optical telephoto camera, a higher stated battery capacity, 80W charging and newer-generation hardware. Their published India prices come from different years, so they do not establish which phone costs less today.

Which display and input experience is better?
Galaxy S22 Ultra: sharper screen and built-in S Pen
Samsung specifies a 6.8-inch QHD+ display with an adaptive refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz. Its integrated S Pen lets you write or draw directly on the phone without carrying a separate stylus. Samsung’s India launch material also cites peak brightness of 1,750 nits; that is a manufacturer specification, not an independent brightness measurement.

OPPO lists a 16.05cm FHD+ AMOLED panel at 2640 × 1216 resolution and up to 120Hz. Both phones therefore advertise a 120Hz maximum refresh rate, but their resolution and input options differ: the S22 Ultra has the higher stated resolution and an integrated pen. A matching refresh-rate ceiling alone does not make their displays equivalent.

How do their cameras differ?
Samsung emphasizes multiple zoom options and Expert RAW
Samsung describes the S22 Ultra as having a quad-camera system with dual telephoto hardware and 100x Space Zoom. It also promotes Nightography and Expert RAW, including saving RAW images at up to 16-bit. Samsung’s 100x figure is a feature description; it should not be read as a guarantee of optical detail at that magnification.
OPPO lists a 3.5x optical telephoto camera
OPPO India specifies a 50MP telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom and optical image stabilization (OIS). OPPO’s global Reno16-series announcement describes main, telephoto portrait and ultra-wide cameras across the series. Do not assume that every Reno16-branded phone sold in every country has the India model’s exact configuration.

These hardware descriptions do not settle which phone takes better photos or video. Neither manufacturer page provides a matched independent camera test comparing the two phones, so megapixels and zoom labels alone cannot establish image quality.

OPPO describes OPPO Bubble as a 35g magnetic AMOLED accessory that can act as a rear-camera monitor and remote viewfinder or shutter from up to 10 metres away. The company says it supports Reno16-series phones when attached to compatible cases or magnetic rings. Availability by market is not established, so confirm local availability and compatibility before buying.

Which phone has the stronger performance and software case?
For the India models, Samsung’s launch announcement identifies Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 for the Galaxy S22 series, while OPPO lists Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 for the Reno16 5G. Processor names alone do not show how the phones compare in everyday speed, sustained performance or gaming; the cited official sources do not provide a matched benchmark.
Samsung’s S22 launch material promised up to four generations of Android operating-system upgrades. That launch-era promise is not a check of the S22 Ultra’s current update status. Check Samsung’s current support information for the phone and your region if update eligibility is decisive.

How do battery capacity, charging and durability compare?
Battery and charging
OPPO states the Reno16 5G battery capacity as 6700mAh typical and 6490mAh rated, and lists 80W SUPERVOOC charging. Samsung lists 45W charging for the S22 Ultra; the cited launch material does not give a battery-capacity figure for this comparison. Samsung’s claim of more than a day of use is a manufacturer endurance claim, not a result from a shared test. Capacity and charging wattage do not by themselves predict real-world battery life.
Water and dust resistance
OPPO lists IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings for the India Reno16 5G. Samsung’s cited India launch material mentions Gorilla Glass Victus+ across the S22 series but does not provide a matching S22 Ultra water-rating comparison in the reviewed passage. The available evidence therefore does not support a like-for-like durability verdict.

What is the price difference in India?
A current price difference cannot be calculated from the published figures here because they are dated to different market moments and do not cover identical configurations. OPPO India listed the Reno16 5G at ₹66,999 for 8GB/256GB and ₹72,999 for 12GB/256GB, with prices stated correct as of 31 August 2026 and subject to change. Samsung Newsroom India announced the S22 Ultra at ₹109,999 for 12GB/256GB and ₹118,999 for 12GB/512GB at its 17 February 2022 launch.
For a buying decision today, compare live prices in the same country for equivalent storage and RAM configurations. The 2022 Samsung launch prices are historical anchors, not current retail or used-market quotes, and should not be directly subtracted from OPPO’s dated 2026 prices.
Which phone should you choose?
- Choose the Galaxy S22 Ultra if the higher stated display resolution, integrated S Pen, dual-telephoto camera setup or Expert RAW features matter most to you.
- Consider the Reno16 5G if you prefer its stated 3.5x optical telephoto, larger published battery capacity, 80W charging or later release generation. Verify its India-specific features if buying outside India.
- Compare current local offers before deciding on price. The available official figures are not contemporaneous and do not make a reliable present-day price comparison.
India Reno16 details that may affect a purchase
OPPO identifies the India Reno16 5G as model CPH2865. Its product page lists 8GB/256GB and 12GB/256GB versions and says the India model does not support storage-card expansion, NFC or eSIM. OPPO also notes that other Reno16-series models are sold in other countries with different specifications and prices. Check the model number and local specification page rather than assuming the India configuration applies worldwide.
