You can check JBL earbuds battery status in the JBL Headphones app, by reading the earbuds’ or case’s indicator lights, or—if your phone and model support it—in your phone’s Bluetooth or device display. The exact reading and which component it describes vary by model, so use the guide for your specific earbuds rather than assuming every JBL model shows a percentage.
1. Check the JBL Headphones app
- Pair your earbuds with your phone and install or update the official JBL Headphones app.
- Open the app and connect to or select your exact earbud model.
- Look for the model’s battery information. What appears, and where it appears, can vary; the app does not provide a documented universal screen or exact-percentage display for every model.
JBL manuals reference the app for supported products, and JBL’s app release notes add support for specific models over time. For example, the JBL Headphones app release notes list dated model-support changes. If your earbuds do not appear, check that you have the correct model and a current app version.
2. Read the earbud or case indicator lights
Place the earbuds in or near the case as directed by your model’s manual, then check the relevant lights. Indicators are model-specific, and a case light may describe the case’s charge rather than the earbuds’ remaining charge.

JBL Wave Beam 2
The JBL Wave Beam 2 Quick Start Guide maps its case battery-level indicator to low/red, mid/orange, and high/green. Treat those colors as guidance for this model, not a universal JBL color code.

JBL Free and Free X
For JBL Free and Free X, JBL says some of the case’s four dots light to indicate the case battery. The earbuds’ white rings light while charging and go out when fully charged; those rings show charging status, not the same case-level reading. See JBL Free: Charging Information.
For another model, find its name—often on the case, packaging, or in the Bluetooth device name—and use its own guide to interpret the lights. The JBL Vibe Flex 2 Quick Start Guide, for instance, includes model-specific LED behavior and references the JBL Headphones app.

3. Check your phone’s Bluetooth or device display
Some combinations of phone, operating system, and JBL model expose accessory battery status in a Bluetooth or device interface. On your phone, open the connected-device details and look for a battery reading. The exact path and whether a reading appears vary, and JBL’s official materials do not establish one universal iPhone or Android menu path or guarantee an exact percentage for all models. Check your phone’s instructions and the guide for your earbuds.

If you can’t find a useful battery reading
- Confirm the exact JBL model using the case, packaging, Bluetooth device name, or model guide.
- Reconnect the earbuds; if needed, remove them from your phone’s Bluetooth list and pair them again.
- Update the JBL Headphones app and check that it supports your model.
- Consult the model’s official guide before interpreting LEDs, and distinguish the case’s charge from the earbuds’ charge.
