To enable HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color on an LG OLED, turn it on for the HDMI port connected to your source device. On some models, the setting is under All Settings → Picture → Additional Settings → HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color. LG lists another path for some TVs: Detailed Settings → General → HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color. Menu names vary by model and software.
Turn on the setting for the connected HDMI port
- Turn on the TV and note which HDMI input is connected to the console, set-top box, PC, or other device.
- Open the TV’s settings. In LG’s 2020 webOS 5.0 example, go to All Settings → Picture → Additional Settings → HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color. Turn on the option for the HDMI port connected to your source. LG’s game-mode instructions document this path.
- If you cannot find that menu, try Detailed Settings → General → HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color. LG’s external-device 4K guide documents this alternate path, and says to restart the TV after turning on the relevant port.
- Test the source. If the picture does not appear as expected, check the source’s output settings and the connection as described below.
LG notes that its instructions cover multiple models and that menu content or images may differ. If neither path matches your TV, look up the manual or support page for your exact LG OLED model.

What the setting does—and when to turn it off
HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color enables the selected HDMI input to support compatible high-bandwidth video signals, including 4K content from an external device. It is a per-input setting: enabling it for one HDMI port does not mean it is enabled for every port.
Turn it on for the port carrying a compatible source when you need that port to support the signal. LG warns that a device without Ultra HD Deep Color support may not work properly with the option enabled; its owner’s manual guidance advises turning the option off if a problem occurs. Some picture settings may also be unavailable while the feature is on. LG says video may flicker temporarily when game optimization starts.

If 4K still does not work
- Confirm the source is sending 4K. A TV setting cannot make a source output 4K if the connected device is configured for a lower resolution.
- Check the cable and connection. In its US external-device troubleshooting guide, LG recommends checking for an HDMI 2.0-or-higher cable. This is setup guidance from that guide, not a statement that every LG OLED and source has identical requirements.
- Check the source’s output resolution. For a set-top box, LG’s guide says to check that the output is set to 2160p at 60fps. The appropriate options depend on the source and setup.
- Try turning the feature off if the device misbehaves. If the problem stops, check compatibility and consult the TV’s model-specific manual before trying again.
For additional troubleshooting steps, see LG’s external-device 4K instructions.
