DreamHost Launch has the lower advertised first-year monthly price; Bluehost Starter has the lower advertised renewal rate. They are not equal-term offers, though: DreamHost’s cited Launch price is for the first year, while Bluehost’s Starter price is tied to a 36-month term. Choose by comparing the checkout total, renewal terms, included limits and the kind of WordPress hosting you need—not by the promotional price alone.

Bluehost vs DreamHost at a glance

The following figures are the providers’ advertised plan details captured on October 7, 2026. Prices and offers can change. DreamHost says its full term plus taxes is charged at checkout; confirm the final amount, renewal period and any optional add-ons with either provider before buying.

The advertised monthly prices are not a like-for-like total-cost comparison: DreamHost’s example is annual, and Bluehost’s is for 36 months. The cited renewal examples also differ in price and period. Calculate what you will pay across the initial commitment and the first renewal period before deciding.

How much do Bluehost and DreamHost cost?

Compare the amount due now, not only the monthly headline

DreamHost Launch is displayed at $2.89 per month for its first year, with renewal at $10.99 per month after one year. Its page says the full term plus taxes is charged at checkout, so the advertised monthly figure should not be mistaken for a month-to-month payment.

Bluehost Starter is displayed at $3.99 per month on a 36-month term and renews at $9.99 per month. The cited plan page does not state a comparable annual checkout total in the material available here. Check the current checkout page for the actual charge and renewal duration.

Account for the renewal period

DreamHost’s cited renewal example is monthly after the first year; Bluehost’s cited renewal figure is also monthly, but its initial offer commits to 36 months. Verify the contract and billing schedule shown at checkout, including taxes and any optional services. A lower renewal monthly rate does not by itself establish the lower cost over a chosen period.

Which plan includes more for a first website?

For the two entry plans in these examples, DreamHost lists more websites and storage, while Bluehost lists migration tooling and a CDN. Both advertise a first-year domain, SSL, a 30-day money-back guarantee and capacity for 40,000 monthly visits. The visit figure is each provider’s own suitability claim, not an independent capacity or performance test.

  • DreamHost Launch: 25 websites, 25 GB NVMe SSD storage and daily automated backups.
  • Bluehost Starter: 10 websites, 10 GB NVMe SSD storage and weekly backups.
  • Bluehost-specific listed features: a migration tool, free CDN, malware scanning, managed WordPress updates and 24/7 chat support.
  • DreamHost-specific listed features: unmetered bandwidth, unlimited free SSL certificates, and three months of 20 mailboxes.

Those are advertised plan inclusions, not a guarantee that either service is the better fit for every site. Check the terms behind features you expect to rely on, especially migration scope, backup restoration, mailbox duration and any limits not shown on the plan card.

Should you choose standard hosting or managed WordPress?

DreamHost Launch for a WordPress site you manage

DreamHost says WordPress can be installed on its Shared, Managed VPS and Dedicated plans. That makes its general hosting relevant if you want to choose and manage a WordPress installation without buying its custom-managed product. The WordPress overview describes DreamPress as DreamHost’s custom-managed WordPress offering, including caching and memory management. Read DreamHost’s WordPress overview.

DreamPress 1 for a managed WordPress environment

DreamHost’s page lists DreamPress 1 at $14.99 per month for the first year, renewing at $19.99 per month after one year. It includes one website, 15 GB NVMe storage, 40,000 monthly visits, 14 days of backup retention, one professional site migration, unmetered bandwidth, unlimited mailboxes and a first-year domain. Listed managed WordPress features include staging, backup options, an essential CDN, failover protection and 24/7 WordPress expert support. The offer has a 30-day money-back guarantee. Check DreamHost’s current plan terms.

Bluehost Starter for WordPress hosting

Bluehost’s Starter plan page lists managed WordPress updates alongside its migration tool, free CDN, weekly backups and 24/7 chat support. These advertised features may suit someone seeking an entry plan with WordPress-related tools, but the cited information does not establish that its management scope is equivalent to DreamPress. Compare the exact services and support you need rather than treating “managed” as a uniform level of service.

Which provider is better for you?

  • Consider DreamHost Launch if the 25-site allowance, 25 GB storage, daily backups or lower displayed first-year monthly price fit your priorities—and you are comfortable evaluating the annual commitment and higher cited renewal rate.
  • Consider Bluehost Starter if its migration tool, CDN, weekly backups and chat support match your needs, and you are prepared for the displayed 36-month initial term.
  • Consider DreamPress if you want DreamHost’s specifically custom-managed WordPress product and its listed staging, migration and failover features rather than general hosting with WordPress installed.

Provider pages do not establish which company is faster, more reliable or better supported in comparable independent testing. Do not select on the advertised visit number or uptime marketing alone; those are not substitutes for an apples-to-apples performance assessment.
