Yes—community mods can make frame generation possible on some RTX 30-series PCs in games without native frame generation, but there is no universal solution. NVSmooth30 is an alpha experiment that targets NVIDIA Smooth Motion on RTX 30 hardware. OptiScaler has a separate experimental frame-generation route for DirectX 12 games, while its DLSSG-to-FSR3 integration applies only to games that already support NVIDIA DLSS frame generation.
Choose the route that matches the game
“Frame generation mod” can mean different things: enabling a driver-level feature through a compatibility experiment, injecting frame generation into a game, or replacing a game’s existing DLSS frame-generation path. The game’s API and existing support determine which route is relevant.
| Approach | What it does | What the game needs | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| NVSmooth30 | Attempts to expose NVIDIA Smooth Motion’s driver-level path on SM86/RTX 30 hardware. | A game where the Smooth Motion path works; broad per-game compatibility is not established. | Alpha project; NVIDIA driver behavior may change. |
| OptiScaler OptiFG | Experimental frame-generation injection. | A DirectX 12 game; native frame generation is not required by the documented feature. | DX12-only; compatibility varies, and HUD ghosting may occur. |
| OptiScaler with DLSSG-to-FSR3 | Replaces the DLSS frame-generation path with FSR3 frame generation. | The game must already have native DLSS frame generation. | Does not add frame generation to a game with no native DLSS-FG path. |
OptiScaler also supports upscaling-related functionality across DirectX 11, DirectX 12, and Vulkan, but options differ by API. Its experimental OptiFG feature is specifically for DX12. See the OptiScaler documentation and compatibility information for the title you intend to use.
NVSmooth30: an alpha Smooth Motion compatibility experiment
NVSmooth30 describes itself as a clean-room, source-available experiment for running NVIDIA’s NvPresent64.dll Smooth Motion path on SM86 hardware, which includes RTX 30-series GPUs. It is not NVIDIA software, does not include NVIDIA binaries or copied source code, and does not turn this experiment into an official NVIDIA feature.

- Chipset: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060
- Video Memory: 12GB GDDR6
- Memory Interface: 192-bit
- Output: DisplayPort x 3 (v1.4a) / HDMI 2.1 x 1.Avoid using unofficial software
- Digital maximum resolution: 7680 x 4320
The project README gives this basic setup for Windows 10 or 11:
- Back up the game’s original files before changing anything.
- Place NVSmooth30’s
version.dllproxy beside the game’s executable. - Use NVIDIA Profile Inspector to enable Smooth Motion for that game, then apply the setting.
- Launch the game. Do not copy
NvPresent64.dll; NVSmooth30 loads the installed driver copy.
The README says to reapply the Profile Inspector setting after driver updates. Its compatibility depends on observed behavior in a reference driver DLL build; NVIDIA updates may change behavior or binary formats. The project says it rejects unknown binary layouts rather than patching them, but still warns that driver resets, crashes, corrupted frames, and black screens are possible.

TechRadar reported on September 24, 2026, that it had confirmed NVSmooth30 working on an RTX 3050 laptop and an RTX 3080 desktop. Those are two reported examples, not a guarantee for all RTX 30 cards, drivers, or games; a complete game-by-game compatibility list is not established by the cited project materials.
OptiScaler: distinguish injection from replacement
Adding frame generation with experimental OptiFG
OptiScaler’s OptiFG feature is the route to investigate when a game lacks native frame generation, provided it runs in DirectX 12. The feature is experimental, and the project’s documentation describes FSR3 frame generation as needing HUDfix to avoid HUD ghosting. Game implementations vary, so consult OptiScaler’s current compatibility list and known issues rather than assuming support from the game engine or GPU alone.

Replacing an existing DLSS-FG path
The separate Nukem DLSSG-to-FSR3 integration replaces the DLSS frame-generation path in a game that already has native DLSS-FG. That prerequisite matters: this is not the general-purpose method for adding frame generation to a game that has none.
OptiScaler is middleware for games with supported temporal upscaling inputs such as DLSS 2+, FSR 2+, or XeSS. Its README describes options for replacing the selected upscaler and managing frame generation, but available functionality depends on the game and graphics API.

Safety checks before installing either mod
- Keep mods out of online games protected by anti-cheat. OptiScaler warns that mods can trigger anti-cheat software and cause bans; NVSmooth30 also advises against competitive or anti-cheat-protected games.
- Preserve original files. NVSmooth30 warns of crashes, driver resets, corrupted frames, and black screens, so keep a way to restore the game before installing its proxy.
- Check the current per-game notes. Driver and game updates can affect compatibility, and the OptiScaler project documents known issues that vary by title.
- Use designated project channels. OptiScaler warns about fake websites and says its official distribution locations are its GitHub, Discord, and Nitec’s Nexus Mods page. Its repository says the project is free and payment demands are scams.
- Do not assume a performance or image-quality result. Compatibility is not a promise of a particular frame-rate increase or visual outcome.
