Commander Keen cheats depend on which episode you are playing. Episodes 1–3 use direct key combinations such as G + O + D for god mode; Episodes 4–6 generally use A + 2 + Enter to enable debug mode, followed by an F10 cheat. Keen Dreams has its own always-available cheat behavior. Use the episode-specific instructions below, and save before trying Galaxy debug actions that can destabilize a game.
Identify your Commander Keen episode first
The cheat systems fall into two groups: the original Invasion of the Vorticons Episodes 1–3, and the Galaxy-era Episodes 4–6. Their codes are not interchangeable. Keen Dreams is a separate case: its cheats do not require Galaxy’s debug-mode activation.

| Game | How cheats are activated | Key distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Episodes 1–3: Invasion of the Vorticons | Hold the relevant keys together during gameplay. | Do not use the Galaxy A + 2 + Enter and F10 sequence. |
| Episodes 4–6: Galaxy | In most versions, enter A + 2 + Enter during gameplay, then hold F10 and press a cheat key. | Some early Keen 6 versions do not require debug activation; behavior varies by version. |
| Keen Dreams | Use its listed cheat directly during gameplay. | It does not use Galaxy’s debug mode. |
The episode split and code families are documented in KeenWiki’s cheat overview and episode-specific god-mode instructions.

#1 Best Overall
| Keys | Effect |
|---|---|
| G + O + D | Activates god mode. |
| C + T + Space | Gives items: a pogo stick, keycards, and full ammunition. |
| Shift + Tab | Passes through an unplayed level on the world map. |
The item and map behavior is recorded in the historic support/code list; the episode-specific combinations are also summarized by KeenWiki.
Episodes 4–6: Enable Galaxy debug cheats
- Start gameplay in the relevant Galaxy episode.
- In most versions, press A + 2 + Enter together to enable debug mode.
- Hold F10 and press the cheat letter. For example, F10 + G activates god mode where supported.
Some early Keen 6 versions allow cheats without the debug-mode step. The /NOWAIT launch parameter is another documented way to bypass the debug code in some episodes and versions, but it is not a universal requirement or workaround. For version-specific caveats and effects, see KeenWiki’s Galaxy cheats reference.
Useful F10 actions
Unless noted otherwise, the entries below refer to the Galaxy cheat system after debug mode is enabled where required.

Rank #2
| Input | Effect | Episode or risk note |
|---|---|---|
| F10 + G | God mode. | Works in Keen 4–5 and most Keen 6 versions. |
| F10 + I | Gives four gems, 99 ammunition, and 3,000 points, plus an episode-specific item. | Keen 4: wetsuit; Keen 5: keycard; Keen 6: grappling hook, giant sandwich, and spaceship passcard. These quantities and items are documented in KeenWiki’s Galaxy cheat reference. |
| F10 + J | Enables endless jumping. | Movement cheat. |
| F10 + N | Turns on no clipping. | Keen may fall through the floor; boundary behavior can lead to death. |
| F10 + E | Ends the current level. | This exits the level; it does not locate or open a secret route. |
| F10 + W | Warps to a level. | Available destinations vary; in Keen 4, this cannot reach the high-scores level. |
| F10 + Y | Reveals hidden paths. | Useful for spotting concealed passages. |
| F10 + S | Toggles slow motion. | Utility/debug function. |
| F10 + Z | Sets lives to zero. | Can kill Keen when god mode is off and may crash in certain states. |
Some Galaxy debug functions are development tests, not harmless convenience features. Save before experimenting; a code may cause an unexpected death or crash. The version notes and warnings are described in the Galaxy cheat reference.
Other Galaxy combinations
| Input | Effect | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| B + A + T | Gives all four gems, one life, and all map items. | This is a separate combination, not an F10 action. |
| E + N + D | Shows the ending sequence. | Starts the ending rather than navigating to a hidden level. |
| F9 | Switches to text mode and displays a DOS prompt. | Called the “boss key” in the game-specific reference. |
| Ctrl + Q | Quits immediately. | Can end play without a normal in-game exit. |
These behaviors and their cautions are listed in KeenWiki’s Galaxy cheats reference.
Keen Dreams: god mode without Galaxy debug activation
In Keen Dreams, press F10 + G for god mode. Unlike Galaxy, Keen Dreams does not require the A + 2 + Enter debug-mode step; its cheats are available directly. The distinction is noted in KeenWiki’s god-mode instructions.

Cheats can reveal or warp to things, but they are not the same as finding a secret-level entrance. The routes below come from the historic 3D Realms support archive; treat exact directions as version-sensitive historical guidance.

Episode 1: reach the hidden city
- On the planet’s east side, pass the ice city and continue down beyond two domes until you reach a white city.
- In the area with four keycard doors, enter the yellow-keycard corridor.
- Drop through the hole, avoiding the brazier, then pogo over the wall.
- Use the ice-cube cannon to get past the next wall and reach the transporter leading to the hidden city.
Episode 4: enter the hidden pyramid
- In the Pyramid of the Moons level, use the yellow crystal to open the door on the right and flip the switch. This closes a passage so the inchworms can be gathered.
- Gather all 12 inchworms together.
- Jump on the foot that appears to enter the hidden pyramid.
Do not leave the Pyramid of the Moons level before entering the hidden pyramid: the archive says the route is lost for that playthrough.
Episode 5: find the concealed route in the Gravitational Dampening Hub
- Near the end of the hub, use the down-jump maneuver in the archway.
- Move left until Keen falls to the bottom, then go right to the concealed route and teleporter.
The archived directions warn that this path contains hazards, so save before attempting it.
Episode 6: wait for the map spaceship
Near the final level on the world map, pass through the large blue structure without entering the level. Wait on the map for a spaceship to pick Keen up and carry him to the secret level.
