On a computer, open Chrome and go to More (⋮) > Help > About Google Chrome; the version is listed beneath the Google Chrome heading. On iPhone, open Chrome and tap More (⋯) > Settings > Google Chrome to view Chrome information. The menus differ, and updates are installed differently on each device.
Check Chrome’s version on a computer
- Open Google Chrome.
- Click More (the three-dot menu) in the top-right corner.
- Select Help, then About Google Chrome.
- Find the series of numbers beneath the Google Chrome heading. That is the browser’s version number.
Opening the About page also checks for updates. Google’s Chrome computer update instructions say to select Relaunch if an update is ready. If Relaunch is not shown, Google says Chrome is already up to date.
Check Chrome’s version on iPhone
- Open the Chrome app.
- Tap More (the three-dot menu), then tap Settings.
- Tap Google Chrome to view information about the app.
Google’s Chrome instructions for iPhone and iPad give this route to Chrome information. It is different from the computer’s Help menu.
Update Chrome if you need to
Computer
On a computer, use More > Help > About Google Chrome. Chrome checks for updates on that page; select Relaunch when it appears to apply an available update. Chrome generally updates in the background after you close and reopen it, so an update may be waiting for a relaunch. Open tabs and windows are restored after restarting, but Incognito windows do not reopen.

iPhone
- Open the App Store and tap your profile image.
- Scroll to Available Updates and look for Chrome.
- If Chrome is listed, tap Update. Enter your Apple ID password if prompted.
Chrome should update automatically according to your Apple App Store settings, but check the Available Updates list to see whether an update is waiting.
