Neither GoDaddy nor DreamHost is the better choice for every site. Choose by comparing equivalent plans, the number of sites and storage you need, backup and SSL terms, and—especially—the full renewal cost. DreamHost’s cited shared-hosting plans publish site, storage, estimated-visit, backup, SSL, and renewal details. GoDaddy’s cited pages describe general web hosting and separate managed WordPress tiers, so the right comparison depends on which product you plan to buy.

How to compare GoDaddy and DreamHost fairly

Start with the kind of hosting you need. Shared web hosting, shared WordPress hosting, and managed WordPress hosting are different products, with different bundles and prices. A DreamHost shared-hosting plan is not a like-for-like comparison with a GoDaddy managed WordPress tier.

Then compare the plan details that affect your site: the number of websites allowed, storage, backup schedule, SSL inclusion, migration or staging features, subscription term, and renewal price. Treat provider feature pages as descriptions of what each company offers—not as independent evidence of speed, uptime, or support quality.

What the cited plans include

DreamHost shared web hosting

DreamHost’s web-hosting page lists Launch, Growth, and Scale. Its Launch listing shows 25 websites, 25 GB of NVMe SSD storage, and an estimate of 40,000 monthly visits. The page says monthly visits are estimates, not hard caps. The listed plans also include daily automated backups and unlimited free SSL certificates. These are DreamHost’s plan descriptions, not independent measurements of capacity or performance.

GoDaddy general web hosting

GoDaddy’s general web-hosting page describes unmetered bandwidth, automatic daily backups, global data centers, and SSL, CDN, and firewall features. It also states a 99.9% uptime guarantee. That percentage is GoDaddy’s guarantee, not a third-party uptime result or a demonstrated comparison against DreamHost.

WordPress hosting is a separate comparison

DreamHost’s WordPress hosting page distinguishes shared WordPress plans from DreamPress, its managed option. GoDaddy’s managed WordPress listing presents tiered features, including site counts, NVMe storage, free SSL, backup schedules, malware scanning, and higher-tier features such as staging and CDN. Check the specific tier: backup frequency and included tools can vary. Do not treat all WordPress hosting as one equivalent bundle.

Prices: compare the term and renewal, not just the starting figure

The prices below are snapshots from the cited US listings accessed in 2026, not guaranteed checkout quotes. They can vary by market, currency, subscription length, tax, and promotional eligibility.

Plan and term Displayed price What the figure establishes
DreamHost Launch, annual listing $2.89/month for the first year; $10.99/month on renewal DreamHost’s cited annual web-hosting page displays both rates.
DreamHost, four-year subscription view Different prices from the annual listing The cited page shows a separate term and pricing view; it should not be treated as the annual rate.
GoDaddy Managed WordPress Basic, first one-year term $6.99/month GoDaddy’s cited US listing shows a first-year price; it does not establish the renewal rate.
GoDaddy Managed WordPress Deluxe, first one-year term $10.99/month GoDaddy’s cited US listing shows a first-year price; it does not establish the renewal rate.
GoDaddy Managed WordPress Ultimate, first one-year term $14.99/month GoDaddy’s cited US listing shows a first-year price; it does not establish the renewal rate.

Before buying, check the checkout page for the complete amount due, the length of the introductory term, renewal pricing, and any taxes or add-ons. The cited GoDaddy managed WordPress listing does not state renewal rates for these tiers, so request or verify that figure rather than assuming the introductory price continues.

Which host should you choose?

Choose DreamHost when its shared plan fits your site

  • The listed website count and NVMe storage suit the number and size of your sites.
  • The plan’s monthly-visit estimate is useful as guidance for your expected traffic, and you understand it is not a hard cap.
  • Daily backups and unlimited free SSL certificates meet your requirements.
  • The renewal rate and subscription term work for your budget.

Choose GoDaddy when its specific bundle fits better

  • You have identified whether you need general web hosting or a managed WordPress tier.
  • The selected product’s included backup schedule, SSL, storage, and site allowance meet your needs.
  • For managed WordPress, features such as staging or CDN matter to you and are included in the tier you are considering.
  • You have verified the full cost, including renewal pricing, before committing.

What the available evidence does—and does not—say about performance

GoDaddy states a 99.9% uptime guarantee and describes performance-related features. DreamHost’s cited pages list plan features and capacity guidance. None of these vendor pages provides a neutral, comparable measurement of the two hosts’ uptime, page speed, or support response times. There is therefore no established performance or support winner on this evidence. If those factors will determine your choice, compare independent measurements for the exact plans and region you intend to use, and assess the providers against your own requirements.

A final pre-purchase checklist

  1. Select the product category: compare shared web hosting with shared web hosting, or managed WordPress with managed WordPress.
  2. Confirm capacity: check the number of websites, storage, and—where listed—how traffic figures are defined.
  3. Check safeguards and tools: confirm backup frequency, SSL inclusion, migration support, staging, and any security features on the exact tier.
  4. Read the term and renewal details: record the amount due now and the recurring price after the introductory period.
  5. Verify your checkout: confirm geography, currency, tax, promotional eligibility, and any selected add-ons before paying.
