Redeem an Uber gift card in the Uber or Uber Eats app, then select the account balance to pay for eligible rides or food orders. Before using it, check the card’s purchase country and currency, the order or ride type, and the local expiration terms—gift cards do not have one universal set of rules.
Redeem the gift card in the app
Uber gift cards can be redeemed through the account’s wallet or payment area. The exact label and route can vary by app and market. Uber’s gift card page provides instructions for both apps.

- In the Uber app: Open the Wallet or payment section, choose the gift card option, and enter the code.
- In the Uber Eats app: Open the account or wallet area, choose the gift card option, and enter the code.
Once redeemed, the value is added to the account and cannot be transferred to another account, according to Uber’s gift card help page.
Use the balance for an eligible ride or order
Uber describes gift cards as usable in the Uber and Uber Eats apps. At checkout, review the selected payment method before confirming the ride or placing the order; the gift card balance may be selected by default, but you can change the payment option.

Some ride types and profiles are excluded. Uber’s general gift card page lists Family Profiles, scheduled rides, and university campus card rides as ineligible uses. Check the terms that apply to your card and location if the trip or order is unusual.
Check currency and location before relying on the card
A gift card is not necessarily usable wherever Uber operates. Uber says cards can be spent only in countries that accept payment in the currency in which the card was issued. Check the card’s purchase country and currency against the recipient’s intended use before redeeming it. See Uber’s gift card page and the applicable local terms.

What if the balance is less than the total?
If the gift card balance does not cover the full amount, another gift code or payment method may be needed. Uber’s UK Uber Money help page describes these options, but payment handling can vary by market; do not assume every account can combine balances and payment methods in the same way. Expiration depends on the market
Expiration rules differ by country and by whether a card has been redeemed. The official regional pages give these examples:
- EEA context: The cited Uber help page says unredeemed cards expire after one year.
- Japan: Uber’s rider help page describes a three-year expiration period.
- Australia: Uber’s terms say a card must be redeemed within three years of activation; redeemed balance does not expire under those terms.
These are regional examples, not a global policy. Check the terms supplied with the card and the local Uber terms for the country where it was bought and where it will be used: EEA-context Uber help, Japan Uber help, and Australian gift card terms.

If redemption or checkout does not work
- The code will not redeem: Confirm that you entered it in the correct app and account, then check the card’s local terms and currency eligibility.
- The balance is missing or insufficient: Check the wallet balance and the payment method selected for the transaction. If the balance falls short, the app may require another gift code or an alternate payment method.
- You want to move the balance: A redeemed gift card cannot be transferred to another account.
- You are using it in another country: Verify that the destination country accepts payments in the card’s issued currency before relying on the balance.
