Yahiko helped create Akatsuki; Akatsuki did not create Yahiko. He founded the original organization with Nagato and Konan to pursue peace in the Hidden Rain, and he served as its leader.
Who created the original Akatsuki?
Yahiko, Nagato, and Konan formed the original Akatsuki. The Naruto Official Site’s synopsis for Naruto: Shippuden episode 567, “Creeping Shadow”, describes their goal as bringing peace to the Hidden Rain. A separate official synopsis for episode 393, “Origin of Pain”, identifies Yahiko as the group’s leader.
Why did Yahiko form Akatsuki?
The group was a response to conflict in the Hidden Rain. Its founders sought a way to pursue peace, and Akatsuki began as a small organization before gaining recognition and support from other shinobi, including Hanzo the Salamander, according to the episode 567 synopsis.

Episode 393’s official summary places the trio’s formation after they went through a war zone in search of Jiraiya, hoping to learn ninjutsu from him. After their training, they formed an organization under Yahiko’s leadership. The official episode summaries establish this broad sequence without detailing every step of the group’s development.

What was Obito’s connection to Akatsuki’s creation?
The episode 567 synopsis says Obito appeared disguised as Madara Uchiha and warned Yahiko, Nagato, and Konan that their ideals would not be realized. That warning is part of the origin account, but it does not establish that Obito founded Yahiko’s original peace-seeking group. The distinction matters: the official summaries credit the trio with forming it and Yahiko with leading it.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which version of Akatsuki does this origin describe?
This account concerns the original organization and its stated peace goal. Akatsuki’s name is also associated with later versions, but the two official synopses cited here do not provide a complete history of later leadership changes or Obito’s full influence. It is therefore more accurate to describe Yahiko as a co-founder and leader of the original Akatsuki than to say Obito created it.
