You do not charge the Alienware 310M Wireless Gaming Mouse (AW310M) by plugging it into USB. It uses a replaceable AA battery: open the battery compartment, fit the cell in the orientation shown inside, and close the cover. The USB port is for the wireless receiver, not the mouse’s power.

How do I charge my Alienware 310M mouse?

You don’t charge the AW310M through a cable. Dell’s Alienware 310M Wireless Gaming Mouse User Guide specifies a replaceable AA battery and gives instructions for installing it; it does not describe USB charging.

Alienware 310M battery replacement

  1. Turn the mouse over.
  2. Lift off the battery cover.
  3. Place an AA battery in the compartment, matching the orientation marked inside.
  4. Replace the cover.

Dell says to replace the battery when the battery LED indicator starts flashing amber. Its guide specifies the AA form factor but does not endorse a battery brand or establish that the mouse supports charging rechargeable cells internally. If you choose a rechargeable AA, charge it separately with a compatible charger.

Why does the setup guide mention USB?

The USB connection is for the AW310M’s wireless dongle. Dell’s setup directions say to remove the dongle from its compartment and connect it to a laptop’s USB port; for a desktop, they describe using the extension cable. This connects the receiver to the computer—it does not charge the mouse. See Dell’s AW310M manuals and documents for model support materials.

If the mouse does not work after replacing the battery

  • Check that the AA battery is seated in the correct orientation.
  • Try a new battery if the mouse remains unresponsive.
  • Switch the mouse off and on.
  • If the lights do not turn on, press a button to wake the mouse.

These are troubleshooting suggestions in Dell’s AW310M guide.
