Samsung Galaxy Modes and Routines can automate your phone when a driving-related condition occurs—for example, opening a navigation or music app after a Bluetooth connection. They do not recreate Android Auto’s interface on a compatible car display. If you want a simpler phone-screen setup, a routine may help; if you want apps presented through your vehicle’s infotainment screen, you need Android Auto and a compatible car.
What a Galaxy driving routine can—and cannot—do
A Galaxy routine pairs a condition with one or more actions. When the selected condition is met, the phone runs those actions automatically. Samsung’s driving examples include opening maps or music apps, so a routine can reduce the number of steps needed to prepare your phone for a trip.
That automation is not an Android Auto replacement in the display sense. Android Auto connects a phone to a compatible car infotainment system and provides an interface designed for that display. A routine changes phone behavior; it does not make a car screen compatible or project an Android Auto interface onto it. Where to find Routines on a Galaxy phone
On recent Galaxy software, open Settings > Modes and Routines, then choose the Routines area. Samsung says Android 14 and 13 provide features previously found in Bixby Routines there. On Android 12 and 11, Samsung directs users to Bixby Routines. Labels and screens can vary by model and software version, so check the menu names on your device. Samsung’s Korea support page also discusses Android 15 recommendations, but those details should not be treated as a universal path for every region or model.

Samsung’s version guidance is available from Samsung Gulf’s Routines guide, last updated March 16, 2026, and Samsung Korea’s support page, dated May 26, 2025.
Set up a routine to prepare your phone for a drive
- Open Settings > Modes and Routines > Routines. On Android 12 or 11, look for Bixby Routines instead. The exact labels depend on the device and software.
- Create a routine and select its condition. Choose a driving-related condition offered by your phone. A car’s Bluetooth connection may be available as a condition on some devices; check the condition selector rather than assuming every Galaxy model offers the same trigger.
- Add actions. Select from the actions available on your device. Samsung gives examples such as opening a maps or music app, but available actions and launch behavior can differ by model, software, and app.
- Save the routine and check that it runs as intended while parked. If it does not trigger, review the selected condition and the routine’s status in Modes and Routines. Samsung’s interface includes information about running routines that can help identify an unexpected action or a setting affected by a routine.
Samsung describes the condition-and-action approach and driving examples in its Routines support guide and Samsung Newsroom Malaysia’s overview. Treat the examples as possibilities, not a guarantee that every app or action is available on every device.

Choose the setup that matches your goal

Keep setup and phone use safe
Configure and test routines while parked, and keep interaction on the road to a minimum. Google Android Auto Help says, “Pay attention to the road and driving conditions, and always obey applicable laws.” Samsung’s Phone Health and Safety Guide says, “Never mount this device in a manner that will obstruct the driver’s clear view of the street and traffic.” A mount is optional for a phone-screen setup; if you use one, place it without blocking the driver’s view.
