There is no verified, like-for-like ranking here of 11 VPS hosts, so the useful choice is the server that fits how you plan to run Hermes Agent. For chat and scheduled tasks using a hosted language model, a modest Linux VPS may be enough; browser automation calls for more memory. Running a local language model is a different workload and needs resources beyond the lightweight VPS guidance discussed below.

Hermes Agent’s deployment guide describes running the agent on an always-on Linux VPS, either as a native service or in Docker. Its guidance gives a 1 GB RAM baseline for a VPS that is not running a local LLM, while OVHcloud recommends a more conservative 2 GB RAM, 1 vCPU, and 10 GB disk for chat-only use. These are separate source-specific recommendations, not a universal minimum or a comparison of provider performance.

Choose resources based on what Hermes will do

A VPS keeps the Hermes process available even when your own computer is off. The server’s needed capacity depends on the workload: receiving messages and running scheduled tasks with a hosted model is lighter than launching a browser, while local model inference adds another substantial workload that the cited VPS recommendations do not size.

Chat and scheduled tasks with a hosted model

The Hermes Agent VPS deployment guide gives 1 GB RAM as a baseline when you are not running a local LLM. OVHcloud’s guide instead specifies 2 GB RAM, 1 vCPU, and 10 GB disk as a minimum for chat-only use. Treat these as two guides’ recommendations rather than interchangeable guarantees: extra capacity can help accommodate the operating system, dependencies, and other services on the VPS.

Browser automation

Browser automation can raise peak memory use. OVHcloud attributes peak use of 1.2–1.8 GB to browser automation and recommends 4 GB RAM, 2 vCPU, and 20 GB disk for that use case. Those figures come from OVHcloud’s installation guide; they are not results of a cross-provider benchmark.

Local model inference

If you intend to run a local language model, do not use the lightweight hosted-model baseline as your sizing target. The Hermes deployment guide’s 1 GB figure explicitly applies when a local LLM is not running, and the cited OVHcloud figures do not establish a suitable local-inference configuration.

Where Hermes runs is not always where commands run

The machine hosting the Hermes process and the environment used to execute its terminal commands can be different. Hermes documentation describes local, Docker, SSH, Modal, Daytona, and Singularity terminal backends. Before choosing a VPS size, decide whether commands will run on that server or through another execution environment; the VPS still needs to support the Hermes process and any services you host there.

For deployment, Hermes’ VPS guide describes choosing a supported Linux host, connecting over SSH, installing Hermes, and running its setup and diagnostic commands. It covers both a native service and Docker, and advises checking that gateway delivery still works after a restart. Follow the guide for the current installation procedure rather than assuming that a generic VPS image is ready to run Hermes unattended: Hermes Agent’s VPS deployment guide.

How to compare VPS providers for Hermes

Start with workload fit, then compare plans available in the region where you want the server. A low headline price is not enough if the plan lacks memory for browser automation or has renewal terms you did not account for.

  • Resources: record the allocated vCPU, RAM, and disk, and match them to chat-only or browser-automation guidance above.
  • Price over time: compare the current monthly price with the renewal price, and note whether a displayed rate depends on a term or promotion.
  • Location: check which data-center regions are actually offered on the plan you are considering.
  • Network terms: review bandwidth or traffic limits and any restrictions relevant to your use.
  • Administration: determine whether you manage the Linux operating system, updates, security, and backups yourself, or whether the provider includes help for those tasks.
  • Deployment fit: confirm that the plan supports your intended Linux setup and the way you will run Hermes, including any container or browser requirements.

A third-party roundup can help identify providers to investigate, but it does not establish Hermes-specific performance. For example, Contabo’s comparison of VPS providers is a broad market overview, not a controlled test of Hermes workloads. Verify each plan’s current specifications and terms directly with its provider before making a decision.

What the “11 hosts we tested” claim establishes

The Cybernews page titled “Best VPS for Hermes Agent in 2026: Top 11 Hosts We Tested” says its research team evaluated and ranked 11 providers. That is evidence that the page makes an evaluation claim; it does not, by itself, establish the test dates, workload, repeated measurements, uptime window, geographic setup, or underlying results. The available information here does not support independently verifying or reproducing that ranking, so treat its winners as the page’s claims rather than as independently confirmed recommendations: Cybernews’ 2026 Hermes VPS list.

A practical selection process

  1. Define the workload. Decide whether you need chat and scheduled tasks with a hosted model, browser automation, or local model inference.
  2. Set a resource target. Use the relevant deployment guide as a starting point, keeping its specific workload and source attached to the recommendation.
  3. Shortlist plans in your preferred region. Compare actual CPU, RAM, disk, bandwidth terms, and current availability rather than provider reputation alone.
  4. Check the full cost and operating burden. Confirm renewal pricing and decide whether you are comfortable managing the operating system, updates, and backups.
  5. Deploy and verify before relying on it. Use Hermes’ installation, setup, and diagnostic guidance, then confirm gateway delivery after a restart.
