You cannot force a Samsung Galaxy phone to charge past its own protections, and you should not try. What works is a short, ordered set of checks: confirm the cable, adapter and port, then review heat, charging settings and Battery protection, then test wireless charging separately, and only then move to diagnostics or service. Most charging faults are resolved somewhere in that sequence.
Samsung’s support articles describe two common versions of the problem, “Samsung Galaxy device may appear to be charging slowly or not charging at all” and “Samsung Galaxy phone will not charge wirelessly.” The steps below cover both, along with the case where charging stops at a set level.
What “forcing” a charge should mean
Forcing a charge in this context means methodically restoring normal charging. It does not mean bypassing moisture detection, temperature limits or battery protection. Those features exist to protect the port and the battery, and a phone that stops charging for one of these reasons is doing what it was designed to do.
Menu names, feature availability and key combinations vary by Galaxy model, One UI version and region. Where this guide gives a menu path, treat it as the most common location and adjust if your screen differs.

Match your symptom to the likely cause
A single symptom does not identify one cause. Charging trouble can come from the charger or cable, a poor connection, debris in the port, moisture detection, high temperature, a charging setting, Battery protection, the wireless charging setup, or hardware. The table below lists the checks to make first for each common symptom.

Step 1: Check the connection and accessories
Unplug the cable from both the phone and the power adapter, then reconnect it firmly. Inspect the cable and adapter for fraying, bent pins or other damage. If the problem persists, try another charger and cable that you know work with Galaxy devices.
Samsung warns that incompatible accessories can cause slow charging, interrupted charging or outright failure, and recommends accessories designed for the Galaxy device. Charging speed depends on the accessory as well as the phone, so check the phone’s exact model and supported charging tier before buying a replacement.

Accessory requirements by charging tier
Samsung’s fast charging guidance lists the following tiers. Confirm which one your model supports before assuming an adapter is at fault.
- 15 W Fast Charging
- 25 W Super Fast Charging
- 45 W to 60 W Super Fast Charging 2.0
For the higher tiers, Samsung describes a 5 A USB-C cable as the best choice for performance. It notes that a 3 A cable may limit speed or perform poorly, depending on the tier. There is no single wattage that suits every Galaxy phone, so the correct adapter is the one your model’s tier calls for.
Step 2: Inspect the charging port and handle moisture
- Turn the phone off before you inspect the port.
- Shine a flashlight into the USB-C port and look for lint, dust or debris.
- Remove visible debris carefully. Samsung’s US guidance warns against metal objects and liquids. Avoid inserting pins or pouring cleaning fluid into the port.
- If you see or suspect moisture, do not connect a cable. Gently shake the device, wipe it with a soft, clean cloth, and leave it to dry in a ventilated area with cool air.
- Wait until the port is completely dry before you try charging again.
Samsung’s US support guidance states the rule plainly: “Even on water-resistant Galaxy devices, the charging port must be completely dry before charging.” Water resistance does not allow you to charge through a wet port.

Step 3: Review heat, charging settings and Battery protection
Let the phone cool
If the phone is too hot, allow it to cool. Samsung says charging can stop temporarily or slow down when the device is hot. Samsung Ireland’s support guidance also notes that demanding apps running during charging can raise the temperature, so close heavy games or video editing while the phone charges.

If your model supports fast charging, go to Settings > Battery > Charging settings and confirm that fast charging is turned on. Labels can differ by model. Samsung notes that from the Galaxy S23 series onward, Fast charging and Super fast charging are combined into one Fast charging control. Fast charging may also not work when the phone is connected to a PC or a standard USB device, so test with a wall adapter.
Check Battery protection
Go to Settings > Battery > Battery protection. Depending on the option selected, this feature can stop charging early or limit the maximum charge. A charge that stops below 100% is therefore often an intentional battery setting rather than a fault. Change the option if you want a full charge, and understand that the battery will age differently depending on the setting you choose.

Step 4: Troubleshoot wireless charging separately
Wireless charging problems follow a different path from cable problems, so test them on their own. Start by confirming that the exact Galaxy model supports wireless charging. Then work through these checks.
- Place the phone squarely in the centre of the charging pad. Poor alignment can slow or stop charging and may cause overheating.
- Remove the case and any other accessories temporarily.
- Clear foreign objects from both the phone and the pad. Metal objects and cards should not sit between the device and the charger.
- Use the charger’s proper AC adapter and cable, not a substitute.
- If wireless charging stopped after a software update, check for further updates.
Samsung states that fast wireless charging is available only on devices certified by Samsung and the Wireless Power Consortium. Third-party covers may be incompatible with Qi2 or Magnetic Power Profile (MPP) setups, so compatibility depends on both the model and the accessory. If the phone still does not charge wirelessly after these checks, test the same pad with a cable connection to separate a wireless fault from a phone fault.

Samsung Members includes phone diagnostics that can check cable charging. Samsung Ireland’s guidance also lists battery status and wireless charging checks. Run these after the physical checks, since a diagnostic can only confirm what the hardware is doing at that moment.

If the phone still has power and the problem persists, perform a soft reboot. Restart the device and try charging again. The exact button combination varies by model, so use the method your model supports.
When to stop troubleshooting and contact Samsung
- A known-compatible charger and cable still do not charge the phone.
- Charging stays intermittent after the port is clean and dry, the settings are correct, and the phone is cool.
- Battery life has dropped substantially.
- Charging continues to fail after a restart and diagnostic checks.
Any of these points to a possible hardware fault. Contact Samsung Support or arrange a service inspection rather than repeatedly plugging the phone in, because continued charging attempts on a damaged port or battery can make the problem worse.
