If your soundbar shows no sign of power, check its power connections and outlet first, then test its own power button and follow the reset instructions for your exact model. If it turns on manually but not with your TV, troubleshoot the TV link instead: that is a different problem from a soundbar that is completely unresponsive.
First, identify what “won’t turn on” means
Try the power button on the soundbar itself. The result points to the right troubleshooting path:
- No response from the soundbar, remote, or app: Start with the outlet, power cord, and power reset.
- The soundbar responds to its own button but not the remote or app: The issue may be with that control method rather than the soundbar’s power supply.
- The soundbar turns on manually but not when the TV turns on: Check the TV-to-soundbar power or control connection. Sony treats this as a separate symptom from a soundbar that will not power on at all (Sony India Support).
Check the power cord and outlet
- Reseat the cord at both ends. Make sure it is firmly connected to the soundbar and to the AC outlet or power adapter. A loose or disconnected cord can prevent power-on, according to Sony USA Support.
- Inspect the cord. If a detachable cord is damaged or missing, do not substitute an arbitrary cable. Check the soundbar’s manual or manufacturer support for the compatible replacement and electrical specifications.
- Bypass the power strip. Temporarily connect the soundbar directly to a working wall outlet. A strip or surge protector may be the cause; both Sony and Bose recommend testing without one.
- Verify the outlet. Test it with another device, such as a lamp, and check whether a wall switch controls it. If the outlet does not work, try a different known-working outlet.
Test the soundbar’s controls
Press the soundbar’s physical power button, then try its remote and companion app if the model supports one. Bose recommends comparing these controls when troubleshooting its Smart Soundbar 900 (Bose Support).

If one method works and another does not, focus on the failed method—for example, the remote or app—rather than concluding that the soundbar itself has failed. A response from the physical button also confirms that the unit can power on, even if TV-linked or remote operation still needs attention.

Unplug the soundbar for a model-appropriate power reset
A power reset is not the same as a factory reset. For a power reset, disconnect the soundbar from power for the interval specified by its manufacturer, then reconnect it and allow it to reboot.
- Sony: Sony USA’s general guidance says to unplug the system for at least 20 minutes before reconnecting it (Sony USA Support).
- Bose Soundbar 550: Bose’s model-specific instructions call for disconnecting the product for 30 seconds, then allowing about 30 seconds after reconnecting for reboot (Bose Support).
These are different product instructions, not interchangeable universal timings. Use the directions for your model rather than choosing a time from another manufacturer’s procedure.

Use a factory reset only when the model instructions call for it
A factory reset can clear settings, and button combinations differ across brands and models. Do not try a reset sequence found for a different soundbar. Bose distinguishes a basic reset from restoring factory settings, which erases configuration (Bose Soundbar 550 instructions). LG likewise lists different reset procedures for particular soundbar models (LG USA Support).

If the soundbar works manually but not with the TV
When the soundbar powers on with its own button but does not start with the TV, look for a TV-link or control-setting issue rather than treating it as a total loss of power. The relevant settings and connection steps vary by television and soundbar, so follow the instructions for both models. Sony’s guidance addresses failure to turn on with the TV separately from other power-on problems (Sony India Support).
Interpret indicator lights using your model’s guide
Do not assume that a particular LED color has the same meaning on every soundbar. LG notes that indicator colors vary by model; its examples include a red standby light and a red blink during power-on (LG USA Support). Check your model’s manual for the meaning of its specific colors and blink patterns.

When to contact support or arrange repair
If the outlet works, the cord is secure, you have bypassed the power strip, and the model-appropriate power reset has not helped, contact the manufacturer or a qualified repair service. Sony recommends professional service when its troubleshooting steps do not resolve the problem (Sony USA Support). Do not open the soundbar or probe internal power components; use the manufacturer’s service guidance instead.
