AltChar reviewer Asmir Kovacevic rates Minecraft Dungeons II 8/10, calling it “Great.” His review finds that richer quests, gear builds and co-op make the sequel more compelling than its familiar blocky look might suggest—but frequent loot can lose its appeal, and solo bosses can be punishing. If you prefer playing alone, that difficulty is the main reason to pause before buying; if you want a co-op action RPG with room to experiment, the review is much more positive. What is Minecraft Dungeons II?
Minecraft Dungeons II is a follow-up action RPG set in the Minecraft universe. Its story moves between the Overworld and a new dimension called the Sift, as a threat and soul-corrupted foes put both worlds in danger. The official launch announcement describes the game’s setting and confirms it became available on September 29, 2026. Minecraft’s launch announcement and Xbox Wire’s overview of the Sift provide the official context.
What does the review say about the gameplay?
Quests and builds give the adventure more depth
Kovacevic says the sequel won him over after he began skeptical of Minecraft. He praises its story and quest structure, substantial equipment and build system, elemental combat, artifacts and open-world activities. Those are the reviewer’s impressions rather than independently measured features, but together they point to the game’s central appeal: finding gear and abilities that make your character feel distinct.
Co-op is a strong option
The reviewer enjoyed both solo play and couch co-op, including a session with players at different levels. He reports that enemies scaled to both characters in that session; the official listing confirms co-op modes, but does not independently confirm that specific scaling behavior. Xbox lists solo play, couch co-op, online co-op and matchmaking for two to four players. Check the Xbox listing for modes and platform details.

What are the main drawbacks?
Solo bosses may test your patience
The biggest concern in Kovacevic’s review is boss difficulty when playing alone. He says the dodge ability has a three-second cooldown while bosses attack frequently, and reports getting stuck on a boss at normal difficulty. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a guarantee that every player will hit the same wall, but solo players who dislike repeated boss attempts should take it seriously. Co-op is available, though the sources do not establish that it removes the challenge.
Loot comes often, and the look stays familiar
The reviewer finds that frequent equipment rewards make individual drops feel less special. That volume can support experimentation, but it may dilute the excitement of finding a standout item. He also says the visuals remain close to Minecraft’s familiar style. The Sift offers new environments, but the review does not describe a wholesale change in the game’s visual identity.

Kovacevic reviewed the game on Xbox Series X and reports a steady 60 FPS during his play. He also describes a brief PC tryout at maximum settings on a system with an RTX 3080 Ti, Ryzen 9 5900X and 32 GB of RAM. These are observations from one review, not a cross-platform benchmark, so they do not establish performance on other PCs or consoles.

What does the Sift mean for Minecraft?
The Sift is more than a new setting for the sequel. Xbox Wire describes it as Minecraft’s first new dimension in over 14 years and reports that Mojang announced it would come to Minecraft in 2027. That is an announced future addition, not a feature already available in the original game. Xbox Wire’s article on the Sift explains the connection.
