To delete one contact on an iPhone, open Contacts, select the person, tap Edit, scroll down, tap Delete Contact, then confirm. To delete several iCloud contacts together, use Contacts on iCloud.com from a tablet or computer. If you want contacts gone only from this iPhone—not erased from the account—turn off Contacts for that account in Settings instead.
Before you delete: check which action you need
Deleting a contact removes the record. Turning off contact syncing for an account hides its contacts from this iPhone while leaving them in the online account and on other devices already configured for that account. Apple says a contact deleted from an email account is permanently removed from devices signed in to that account, so check which account owns the contact before confirming.

Apple’s current iPhone instructions cover deleting an individual contact, while its documented multi-select route is iCloud.com on a tablet or computer. The cited instructions do not establish a one-step control for deleting all contacts on the iPhone.
How to delete one contact on iPhone
- Open the Contacts app.
- Tap the contact you want to remove.
- Tap Edit.
- Scroll down and tap Delete Contact.
- Tap Delete Contact again to confirm.
Apple describes this as a permanent removal from the device. If the contact is synced from an email account, deleting it also removes it from devices signed in to that account. See Apple’s instructions for managing and deleting contacts on iPhone or iPad.

How to delete several iCloud contacts at once
Apple documents selecting one or more contacts for deletion on iCloud.com, using a tablet or computer:
- On a tablet or computer, go to iCloud Contacts and sign in to iCloud.com/contacts.
- Open All Contacts.
- Select the contacts you want to remove.
- Choose Delete Contact and confirm.
The deletion syncs to devices that have Contacts turned on in iCloud settings. The documented steps support selecting one or more contacts; they do not establish a dedicated “delete all” command. For details, see Apple’s iCloud.com contact-deletion guide.

How to remove contacts from this iPhone without deleting them
If you want an account’s contacts hidden on this iPhone but kept online, turn off Contacts for that account:

- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps, then Contacts.
- Tap Contacts Accounts.
- Select the account and turn off Contacts.
Apple says those contacts no longer appear on the iPhone while the setting is off, but remain in the internet account and on other devices already set up. Turn Contacts back on to show them again. This is different from removing the entire account, which may affect access to other data. Apple explains the account setting in its iPhone Contacts account instructions.

Understand iCloud contact lists before removing anything
In iCloud, a contact can appear in a list while still remaining in All Contacts. Removing it from a list removes only that list membership; the contact itself remains in All Contacts. Deleting a list also leaves its contacts in All Contacts. To delete the contact itself, delete it from All Contacts; that deletion applies to devices with iCloud Contacts enabled. Apple says an accidentally deleted iCloud contact may be restored from an archived version of contacts on iCloud.com. Recovery is not guaranteed, and Apple’s cited instructions do not specify a retention period. See the iCloud contact guide for its recovery instructions.
