Before putting a Ryobi tool away, disconnect its power, clean it as its manual allows, check relevant accessories and parts, and follow the storage directions for that exact model. The five-point checklist below is a practical routine based on several Ryobi manuals—not a universal brand-wide procedure. Your tool’s own manual takes precedence.
1. Disconnect the power source
Before cleaning or maintenance, remove the battery if your tool’s manual directs you to. Ryobi’s circular saw manual warns: “To avoid serious personal injury, always remove the battery pack from the tool when cleaning or performing any maintenance.” The 18V oscillating multi-tool manual also says to remove the battery before adjustments, accessory changes, or storage. Check the instructions for your model rather than assuming every tool has the same procedure.
2. Wipe away dirt and residue
Use a clean cloth to remove dirt, dust, oil, and grease; that is the guidance in the Ryobi PCL206 drill-driver manual. For the P2505 pruning shears, the manual specifies a soft, dry cloth for the body and handles. A clean, nonabrasive cloth is enough for these basic wipe-downs; microfiber is an optional choice, not a Ryobi requirement.

Use only cleaners and methods allowed by the manual for your tool.

3. Clean and check the accessories you used
Some accessories need attention after use. For example, the circular saw manual says to remove accumulated build-up from bits after each use and replace dull bits. That direction is specific to the bits and tool covered by that manual; it is not a universal instruction for every Ryobi accessory.
Look over accessories for signs of trouble. Ryobi’s oscillating multi-tool manual calls for checking tools and accessories for misalignment, binding, or broken parts, and repairing damage before further use. Follow the accessory’s own care directions where applicable.

4. Check the tool for loose, missing, or damaged parts
Before the next use, inspect the tool for visible damage and loose or missing parts. The P2505 pruning shear manual advises periodic checks and tightening fasteners; it also says not to operate the tool until missing or damaged parts have been replaced. Do not use a tool that appears unsafe. For repairs beyond the customer-serviceable work described in the manual, use an authorized service center as directed there.
5. Store it the way its manual specifies
Follow the storage instructions for your exact model, including what to do with the battery and any tool-specific accessories. For instance, the oscillating multi-tool manual says to remove the battery before storage. The P2505 pruning shear manual adds category-specific steps: clear foreign material and fit the blade sheath. Those sheath and blade-care directions apply to that pruning shear, not to all Ryobi tools.
