The Electrolux EHI955BD is a 90cm, five-zone induction cooktop with a large central zone and linked flexible zones on the left. Its layout and features are versatile on paper, but installation is a significant constraint: Electrolux lists an 11kW connected load, hardwiring and a maximum current of 45A. CHOICE marks the model discontinued, and its detailed test scores are not publicly visible, so check availability and electrical fit before treating it as a candidate.
What the EHI955BD offers
Electrolux specifies a black ceramic-glass surface, five induction zones, 14-stage touch-and-slide controls and a two-year warranty. Listed features include Stop & Go/keep warm, a timer and minute minder, auto warm-up, pot detection, power boost and automatic switch-off. Safety functions include a child lock, function lock, safety cut-off, overheating protection, hot-surface indication and a three-level residual-heat display. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance findings. Electrolux’s product page lists the features and specifications.
How the five-zone layout works
The layout combines a larger central cooking area, two linked zones on the left and two smaller individual zones on the right. Published dimensions and power ratings are from Electrolux; CHOICE also lists pan diameter ranges and identifies the left side as flexible.
| Zone | Published size | Published power | Use and qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Centre MaxiZone | 280mm diameter | 3500W | Electrolux describes it as suited to larger pans. |
| Left front | 210mm | 2300W; 3200W boost | Part of the left-side FlexZone arrangement. |
| Left rear | 210mm | 2300W | Can be joined with the other left zone to create a larger cooking surface. |
| Right front | 145mm | 1400W | Individual zone. |
| Right rear | 180mm | 1800W | Individual zone. |
Electrolux says the two left-side zones can be joined for cookware such as a plancha or roasting pot. That flexibility does not guarantee every large pan will heat evenly: the pan’s base shape and size matter, not just the printed zone diameter. Check cookware dimensions against the maker’s guidance and, where available, the usable pan ranges CHOICE lists.

Will it fit the bench and electrical supply?
Electrolux lists outside dimensions of 910 × 520 × 55mm and a bench cutout of 880 × 490mm. Measure the existing opening rather than assuming another 90cm cooktop has the same cutout. Confirm required clearances and installation details against the appliance documentation and the conditions in your kitchen.
The electrical requirement deserves particular attention. Electrolux specifies an 11kW connected load, a hardwired connection and a maximum current of 45A. This is not a cooktop to assume can be connected to a standard plug or supported by an existing circuit. Before buying or planning a replacement, have a qualified electrician check the circuit, supply capacity and applicable local installation requirements. Electrolux’s specifications give the listed load and connection type; the EHI955BD manual listing identifies installation and safety sections.

Cookware and hood compatibility
Cookware
Induction works with cookware made from magnetic material, according to the Appliances Online listing. A pan that does not have a compatible magnetic base will not work as intended on an induction zone. The available public information does not establish which particular pans will suit your needs, so verify compatibility and base dimensions for the cookware you already own or plan to use.

Hob2Hood
Hob2Hood can switch on a compatible Electrolux extractor hood and adjust its fan speed. It is useful only if you have, or intend to install, a compatible hood; the specific compatible hood models are not established here. Confirm compatibility for the exact hood model before relying on this feature.

- PORTABLE INDUCTION BURNER: Duxtop induction cooktop uses 110/120 V 15 amp electrical outlet–standard in all North American homes. ETL listed and built to North American electrical standards. It is lightweight and compact for easy handling and storage
- Choose from 20 preset power levels (100 to 1800 W) and 20 preset temperature level settings (100 °F to 460 °F). With an 83% energy efficiency, induction burner is more efficient than traditional gas or electric stoves
- DIGITAL LCD SENSOR: Touch control panel: child safety lock keeps the cooking and timer settings from being accidentally changed once they have been set; fast boil button; keep warm button (for 1-30 minutes at 140 °F); up to 10-hour timer button
- Induction stoves rely on cookware to heat, so it’s essential to choose magnetic bottom cookware with a minimum diameter of 5 inches. Auto-pan detection will shut off automatically after 60 seconds if no cookware, or the incorrect cookware is detected
- Although induction itself is a noiseless process, there may be high pitched sounds from the cookware due to multiple layers of metals sandwiched together. Please allow the induction cooker to cool down before cleaning
What public reviews can—and cannot—tell you
CHOICE’s public listing calls the EHI955BD discontinued and gives a two-year warranty. It also displays A$1,699, but because the model is marked discontinued, that figure is historical context rather than a current offer. The listing’s tested-year range is 2023 or earlier. Its Expert Rating and detailed cooking performance, ease-of-use, heat-setting and boil-time results are member-only, so those scores cannot be assessed from the public page. See CHOICE’s EHI955BD listing.
Retailer and owner comments offer limited anecdotal context, not controlled testing or a failure rate. Appliances Online’s snapshot shows a 4.5 average from 89 reviews, with positive comments about cleaning, controls and boost as well as a complaint about an uneven surface and a replacement delay. The retailer notes that feedback may include current or previous models. Electrolux’s own Australia page displayed 4.4 from 93 reviews when accessed in 2026; that is a manufacturer-hosted rating, not an independent test score. Neither rating establishes the performance or reliability of every EHI955BD.

- FAST & EFFICIENT COOKTOP - Induction cooking eliminates open flames and heats only the pan, keeping the surrounding area cool. It cooks faster and more efficiently than traditional burners, saving both time and energy in the kitchen.
- INTELLIGENT DYNAMIC WATT TECHNOLOGY - Unlike standard portable cooktops that split power evenly, Dynamic Watt Technology intelligently distributes energy between both burners. Rapidly boil water on one side while maintaining a gentle simmer on the other without sacrificing performance.
- ADVANCED PRECISION HEATING - Choose from 5 preset temperatures or customize between 50°F to 575°F in 5-degree increments. The Precision Key gradually increases heat to better maintain your selected cooking temperature. Enjoy more controlled results for recipes that require steady, even heat like steak, chocolate, and more.
- ADVANCED SEAMLESS IMD TOUCH PANEL - The integrated IMD structure creates a smooth, edge-to-edge glass surface with responsive touch controls. The seamless design prevents food or debris from collecting in gaps while protecting internal components from spills.
- TRUE INDEPENDENT DUAL-ZONE COOKING - Each burner operates with its own dedicated controls, allowing you to cook two dishes at different temperatures simultaneously. Perfect for multitasking meals or preparing sauces and sides alongside your main course.
ProductReview.com.au’s listing contains one public owner account reporting intermittent E8 faults on two zones after about five years, followed by faults that would not clear. Electrolux replied by inviting the owner to contact it directly. A single report cannot establish typical lifespan, fault prevalence or the cause of an E8 error.
Is the EHI955BD worth considering?
It may suit a kitchen that needs five zones, a central area for larger pans and the option to join the left-side zones. Its practical appeal depends on three checks: whether the model is actually available, whether the cutout and installation conditions fit, and whether the home can support the specified hardwired electrical load. The discontinued status makes availability especially uncertain; verify stock, warranty terms and service support with any seller rather than treating an old displayed price as a current quote.
