Yes—Claude can connect to Buffer through Buffer’s MCP integration. Set it up from Buffer’s Apps & Integrations area, authorize the connection using the method offered for your Claude setup, then ask Claude to draft or schedule content or retrieve saved ideas. Check the result in Buffer before relying on it to publish.

What the Claude–Buffer integration does

Buffer’s MCP server lets Claude and other compatible assistants interact with a Buffer account. Buffer’s examples include asking an assistant to schedule a LinkedIn post for a specified time and asking what ideas are saved in Buffer. These are examples of supported workflows, not a guarantee that every request or social channel will be available in every account.

MCP is the connection mechanism; it does not mean Claude has automatic access to your account. You must connect and authorize the integration. Anthropic describes connectors as tools that let Claude understand and take action in connected services: Anthropic’s connector overview.

How to connect Claude to Buffer

  1. Open Buffer’s integration settings. In Buffer, open your profile menu and go to Apps & Integrations > Integrations.
  2. Choose the assistant setup. Select Claude or the relevant MCP-compatible client from Buffer’s available integration instructions, then follow the current setup steps.
  3. Authorize the connection. If the client uses OAuth, Buffer’s guide says you’ll see a Connect button. Other tools may ask you to provide a Buffer API key. Use the method shown for your client; don’t share credentials in a chat prompt.
  4. Start with a small request. Give Claude a narrowly scoped task, such as drafting a post for a particular channel or listing saved ideas. Tell it what actions it may take, and whether it should draft only or schedule.
  5. Verify in Buffer. Confirm the post text, channel, schedule, and any attached media in Buffer before publication. If Claude reports that an action is complete but the expected item is not visible, check the integration connection and Buffer’s account or channel settings.

Buffer’s step-by-step MCP instructions are in its guide to using Buffer’s MCP server with AI assistants. The exact screens and authorization prompts can differ by client and may change.

What you can ask Claude to do

Draft or schedule posts

Once authorized, you can ask Claude to prepare content for a specific connected channel and, where supported, schedule it. Be explicit about the channel, intended date and time, and whether you want a draft or a scheduled post. Review the content and schedule in Buffer rather than assuming the assistant’s response alone confirms publication.

Retrieve saved ideas

You can ask Claude to find ideas saved in Buffer, for example, “What ideas do I have saved in Buffer?” This can help turn an existing idea into a draft, but check the retrieved information and any resulting post for accuracy before using it.

Understand Buffer’s role in publishing

Buffer’s API can create and edit posts, including text and media provided by public link, with channel-specific features where available. Buffer says, “When you use Buffer’s API, we still handle publishing to each connected social channel for you.” That distinction matters: Claude can request supported actions through the integration, while Buffer handles delivery to connected social networks. Read Buffer’s explanation of its API for the current API model and details.

Channel support and plan details

Do not assume every channel supports the same actions. Buffer’s support table shows different combinations of publishing, analytics, and engagement features across networks including Facebook Pages, Instagram Business and Creator accounts, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, Threads, and Bluesky. Availability can depend on the connected account and its permissions; channel tokens can also expire and require reconnection. Check Buffer’s supported-channels table for the channel and action you need.

Buffer describes its current API as GraphQL, separate from its legacy API, and says it is available on every plan, including Free. API availability does not establish that every feature or publishing action is included in every plan. Check current plan limits and feature details before setting up a workflow. See Buffer’s current API overview.

Security, access, and disconnecting

An MCP connection can let an assistant access information in an external service and take actions there. Connect only a source you trust, review permission or tool requests carefully, and enable only the tools relevant to your workflow. Anthropic’s guidance for custom MCP connectors discusses these precautions: Anthropic’s custom-connector security guide.

To review or revoke active Buffer MCP integrations, Buffer’s guide points to Settings > API, then the Personal Access tab and Active Integrations section. Removing a client there revokes its access. Use this if you no longer need the connection or want to stop a client from acting on your Buffer account.

If the connection or a task does not work

  • The integration is missing: Check Buffer’s Apps & Integrations area and the current setup instructions for your exact MCP client.
  • Authorization fails or expires: Revisit the connection flow and reauthorize using the method shown. Confirm the Buffer account and connected channel have the required access.
  • A channel action is unavailable: Check Buffer’s channel-support table and the permissions on that specific social account. A supported integration does not imply identical capabilities across networks.
  • A scheduled post does not appear as expected: Verify the post, target channel, and schedule in Buffer; correct the item there before relying on it to publish.
