You can append parsed JSON or CSV records to a Google Sheet with one Sheets API request per run, using a service account so the scheduled job does not need an end user to complete an interactive consent flow. “Without OAuth” in this context does not mean unauthenticated: the request still uses Google credentials and authorization. The core operation is spreadsheets.values.append; parsing, field mapping, authentication setup, scheduling, and error handling happen around that request.
What “without OAuth” means here
A service account is a non-interactive identity for an application or workload. It can let a scheduled process authenticate without asking a person to sign in and approve access each time it runs. The API request remains authenticated and authorized; this is not a way to bypass Google’s access controls.
Google’s Python quickstart demonstrates an interactive user OAuth flow for a testing environment and says production credentials should be chosen for the application’s authentication and authorization needs. How the one-request workflow fits together
- Enable the Sheets API. Enable it in the Google Cloud project associated with the application. The Python quickstart prerequisites also identify API enablement as part of setup.
- Set up non-interactive credentials. Obtain service-account credentials appropriate to the deployment environment, then grant the service-account identity access to the target spreadsheet. Exact credential creation and deployment steps depend on the environment; the Sheets API examples alone do not establish a universal console or keyless-identity procedure.
- Prepare the input before calling Sheets. Parse the JSON object or array, or the CSV rows, and map the fields into a rectangular two-dimensional list of values. Decide how to handle headers, absent fields, nested objects, dates, and type conversion in your application.
- Append the prepared rows. Make one
spreadsheets.values.appendrequest with the spreadsheet ID, a range covering the intended table, avalueInputOption, and the values in the request body. - Run it on your chosen schedule. Configure a scheduler in the runtime or hosting environment you operate. The right scheduler and configuration depend on that environment and the desired cadence.
The append method searches for a logical table in the supplied range and writes the values after its last row. The range identifies the table area to use; it is not a command to write at a particular starting cell. The append method reference documents the required spreadsheet ID, range, and input option.

Choose how Sheets interprets the values
The valueInputOption controls how submitted values are interpreted, not where appending begins. Choose it based on whether you want Sheets to parse input in a user-like way or preserve supplied values as raw data.
RAW: store values without UI-style parsing.USER_ENTERED: let Sheets interpret values as if entered by a user, which can affect how strings are recognized or formatted.
Check the current method documentation when implementing the request. The API does not determine how your application should map JSON or CSV fields, flatten nested values, represent dates, or handle missing columns. Those decisions belong before the append call. Grant access without over-scoping
When using a service account directly, the target spreadsheet must be shared with that service-account identity. Sheets API scopes apply to a spreadsheet file, not an individual tab, so a scope cannot restrict the identity to only one worksheet inside a spreadsheet. Request only the scope needed for the workflow and account for file-level access. Google explains the available choices in Choose Google Sheets API scopes.
Handle quotas and failed runs
Google’s current usage-limits documentation lists 300 read requests per minute per project and 300 write requests per minute per project, plus 60 read and 60 write requests per minute per user per project. These are live limits and may change. A scheduled writer can receive HTTP 429 when it exceeds quota; Google recommends exponential backoff for quota errors. Build retry handling around failed requests rather than treating every scheduled run as guaranteed success. See Google Sheets API usage limits.

Google also states that each batch request, including its subrequests, counts as one API request toward the usage limit. For this workflow, the prepared rows can be sent together in a single append request rather than issuing a separate request for each row.

The API operation and authentication pattern do not dictate where the job runs or how often it runs. A cron-based host, cloud scheduler, or another runtime-specific scheduler may fit, but no single provider, cadence, or deployment recipe follows from the Sheets API method itself. Google’s Apps Script quickstart uses a script project and user authorization; it is not evidence of a service-account scheduled flow.

In short, the single API call is the append request, not the entire integration. The job still needs valid credentials, spreadsheet permission, input transformation, a scheduler, and a policy for failed or throttled requests.
