On most Samsung tablets, the clipboard is built into Samsung Keyboard. Open an app where you can type, such as Messages or Notes, so the keyboard appears. Tap the clipboard icon on the keyboard toolbar, then tap the item you want to paste. Icon positions and menu names vary by tablet model and One UI version, so if your screen looks different, the troubleshooting steps below cover the usual variations.
Open the clipboard from the keyboard
- Tap a text field, such as a message box, note, or search bar, so the on-screen keyboard opens.
- On the keyboard toolbar, tap the clipboard icon. If you do not see it, open the toolbar’s extra-icons menu at the end of the toolbar and look for Clipboard.
- Tap the clipboard item you want. Samsung’s instructions say the selected item is inserted at the cursor position.
Samsung Japan’s clipboard guide (updated 2026-09-17) states that the clipboard can hold up to 20 pinned items, or up to 10 on devices running Android 10 and below. That limit is version-specific, so check which Android version your tablet runs if the number matters to you.
When the clipboard icon is missing
- Check the keyboard in use. Samsung says clipboard use may be unavailable with third-party keyboards on Android 12 or later. Switch to Samsung Keyboard and try again.
- Check the toolbar’s extra icons. On some layouts, Clipboard sits behind the extra-icons menu rather than on the main toolbar.
- Check your software version. Samsung’s tablet keyboard guide (Samsung U.S. Support, “Use the Keyboard on your Galaxy Tablet”) notes that available keyboard settings depend on software version and provider. If the icon is still absent after the first two checks, update the tablet’s software and confirm the keyboard setup against that guide.
Copy and paste without a keyboard cover
You do not need a physical keyboard cover for basic copy and paste. Samsung’s tablet-mode instructions (Samsung South Africa Support, “How to copy or paste in tablet mode,” last updated 2020-10-05) use touch menus:

- Select the text you want to copy.
- Touch and hold the selection, then choose Copy or Cut.
- Touch and hold the destination, then choose Paste.
Because that page dates from 2020, menu labels on newer One UI releases may differ slightly. The underlying touch gestures are the same.

Choose the right access method
Each method reaches a different part of the clipboard, so pick the one that matches your task.

Copy between Galaxy devices
Cross-device sharing is separate from the tablet’s own clipboard. Samsung U.S. Support (“Share the clipboard to copy and paste across Galaxy devices”) says it requires all of the following:

- Bluetooth turned on
- Continue on other devices enabled on both devices
Check your tablet’s model and software version before relying on this feature, because the requirements apply to each device in the pair.
