No. ASUS sells a charger called the 90W Universal Adapter, but that name does not mean one charger fits every ASUS laptop. Compatibility depends on your exact laptop model, its required voltage and current or wattage, its DC connector or USB-C charging support, and whether the charger supplies enough power. A plug that fits the port is not proof that the electrical specification matches.
Why “universal” does not mean “works with every ASUS laptop”
ASUS uses the word “Universal” in a product name, but its own guidance tells owners to match the adapter to the laptop, not the other way around. ASUS’s support material says adapter specifications should be checked against the specific model, and that a DC jack of the same size is not enough if the output voltage and current differ. The safe question is therefore not “Is this an ASUS charger?” but “Does this charger’s rating and connector match what my laptop requires?”
Step 1: Find the exact laptop’s charger requirement
Start with the model, because ASUS laptops in the same product line can use different adapters. ASUS’s support page on checking the AC adapter specification and checking the recommended charger power (2026) points to three places to look:
- The product’s Tech Specs page on ASUS’s website. Find the exact model and locate the power adapter or power supply entry.
- The user manual for that model, which lists the adapter specification.
- ASUS software on the laptop. Depending on the model, a recommended charger power may appear in MyASUS, Armoury Crate, or ProArt Creator Hub. Not every model shows this, so treat the Tech Specs page and manual as the primary reference.
Write down the output voltage, current, and wattage. If the model’s documentation gives only a wattage, check the charger’s label against it before buying.

Step 2: Read the electrical rating on the adapter label
The adapter label shows input and output voltage and current. The output figures must match the laptop’s requirement. ASUS’s support page gives 19V / 4.74A as an example of a DC output rating. Multiplying voltage by current gives approximate wattage: 19V × 4.74A ≈ 90W.
The same support page uses 19V × 6.32A = 120W as an example calculation of an adapter’s maximum output. That is an illustration of the arithmetic, not a requirement for any particular ASUS laptop.

Voltage is the figure that cannot be substituted casually. Reading the label correctly prevents most mismatches, including the case where the plug is the right size but the output is wrong.
Step 3: Check the connector type

| Connector | How ASUS describes it | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| DC jack, 4.0 mm | Listed as one common DC size | Match the barrel size and polarity to the laptop’s requirement, along with the electrical rating |
| DC jack, 4.5 mm | Listed as one common DC size | Same as above |
| DC jack, 5.5 mm | Listed as one common DC size | Same as above |
| DC jack, 6.0 mm | Listed as one common DC size | Same as above |
| USB Type-C | Listed as a charging connector on some ASUS adapters | Confirm the laptop charges through this port and that the adapter supplies enough power (see the next section) |
ASUS’s 90W Universal Adapter ships with three connector tips, so one adapter can cover more than one barrel size. Even then, each tip still has to be matched to the laptop’s jack and electrical rating.
USB-C charging is conditional
A USB-C port on a laptop does not guarantee that the laptop charges through it. Before using a USB-C charger, confirm two things in the laptop’s own specifications: that it supports charging via USB-C, and what power it requires.

ASUS describes its 65W USB-C Adapter as designed for ASUS laptops that support charging via USB-C. It supports USB Power Delivery 3.0 output profiles up to 20V / 3.25A, which is 65W. A charger with an adequate USB-C profile still cannot charge a laptop that does not accept USB-C charging.

Safety: what ASUS recommends
- Use the supplied original adapter and power cord first. This is ASUS’s primary recommendation.
- If you use another charger, choose a certified product whose output power is higher than the laptop’s recommendation. Higher wattage is not sufficient on its own; voltage, connector, and USB-C support still have to match.
- Incorrect adapter specifications can damage the adapter or the device. ASUS states this directly on its support material.
- Check the regional input range. ASUS lists 100–240V, 50–60Hz for its international 90W adapter. Confirm that your local supply and plug type are supported before using any adapter abroad.
Decision check before you buy
- Did you find the laptop’s adapter specification on ASUS’s Tech Specs page or in its user manual?
- Does the charger’s output voltage match that specification exactly?
- Does the charger’s current or wattage meet or exceed the recommended value?
- Does the connector type and tip size fit the laptop’s port?
- If the charger uses USB-C, does the laptop’s documentation confirm USB-C charging and an adequate power level?
If any answer is “no” or “I’m not sure,” do not use the charger. Contact ASUS support with the exact model number instead of guessing from the plug or the product name.
Limits of this guidance
This article cannot identify the correct adapter for a specific laptop because no model is named here. Specifications, regional availability, and product listings can change, so verify the current ASUS page for your exact model before purchase. The product figures above come from ASUS pages; the 90W and 65W comparison pages do not state a publication year, while the support guidance is dated 2026.
