There is no confirmed $960 PlayStation 6 manufacturing cost or retail price. The figure is a leaker-attributed estimate of the PS6’s bill of materials (BOM), reported by VideoCardz on June 28, 2026. It was described as roughly $200 higher than an earlier estimate of around $760.
Where the $960 estimate comes from
VideoCardz reported that hardware leaker Kepler_L2 estimated the PlayStation 6’s BOM at around $960, up from an earlier estimate of roughly $760. VideoCardz labels the claim a rumor, and its report points to a NeoGAF thread as the attribution trail. That thread is not a Sony statement, an audited teardown, or a published cost breakdown.
Read VideoCardz’s June 28, 2026 report and the linked NeoGAF discussion. A later PC Gamer report dated July 2, 2026 also discusses the estimate and the distinction between materials and retail price.

What a BOM estimate does—and does not—tell you
A bill of materials estimates the cost of a product’s components. It is not, by itself, a confirmed figure for Sony’s complete per-unit manufacturing cost. Nor does it establish what a console would sell for in stores.

| Figure or term | What the available reporting establishes |
|---|---|
| Around $960 | Kepler_L2’s reported PS6 BOM estimate, relayed by VideoCardz on June 28, 2026; not confirmed by Sony or independently audited. |
| Around $760 | The earlier estimate attributed to Kepler_L2 in the same VideoCardz report; also a leak estimate, not an established cost. |
| Retail price | Not announced by Sony in the reporting reviewed. It cannot be calculated directly from the reported BOM. |
The retail price would depend on more than component costs, including Sony’s commercial decisions, regional factors, and whether the hardware is subsidized. Consequently, predictions that the PS6 will sell for $900–$1,000 are speculation, not a price disclosed by Sony or a necessary result of the reported BOM.
Has Sony confirmed the PS6’s price or specifications?
No. In the reporting reviewed, Sony had not confirmed the PS6’s price, specifications, launch timing, or final hardware configuration. The October 4, 2026 iTechGuides summary likewise treats performance and price claims as rumors rather than established announcements. Because the hardware configuration is not confirmed, the reported estimate should not be treated as a settled cost for a finalized console.
