Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave organizes its classes into three official tiers: Beginner, Specialty, and Advanced. Nintendo confirms five Beginner classes and over 10 Specialty classes, and names several examples in each tier. The game is out now on Nintendo Switch 2, with a release date of September 17, 2026, according to Nintendo’s store page. Nintendo has not published a complete list of every class, and we cannot verify a full list of Master and Divine classes, so the names below are labeled by how well each one is sourced.

What a class changes

Nintendo’s August 6, 2026 announcement describes the system this way: “A unit’s abilities, weapons and movement range can drastically change depending on their class, with various categories to choose from.” In practice, switching a unit’s class is how you change its role on the battlefield, from what it can wield to how far it can move. The official overview does not give per-class movement values, so treat movement as something to check in-game for each class rather than a figure you can plan around from this article.

Class tiers at a glance

The table separates what Nintendo states officially from what third-party guides add. Entries marked as guide-listed come from the Pocket Tactics class guide (Quinn Collins, updated September 22, 2026) or the fortunesweave.online community reference (updated October 6, 2026), and are not official Nintendo rules.

Specialty classes

Nintendo says there are over 10 Specialty classes and names three: Armored Knight, Wing Soldier, and Charioteer. The Pocket Tactics guide lists 12 Specialty names in total. That fits Nintendo’s “over 10” wording, but it does not confirm that 12 is the final count.

  • Official (Nintendo): Armored Knight, Wing Soldier, Charioteer
  • Guide-listed (Pocket Tactics): Archer, Armored Ornius Rider, Brigand, Light Cavalry, Myrmidon, Priest, Pugilist, Rogue, Shaman

Advanced classes

Nintendo names three Advanced examples, Cataphract, Guardian, and Elephant Rider, but does not give a total for the tier. The Pocket Tactics guide names 15 Advanced classes in all. Because the guide’s list is not confirmed as complete, read it as the most detailed published roster available, not the final one.

How unlocking works

The unlock process is described in the Pocket Tactics guide and is not part of Nintendo’s official overview. Individual ranks and conditions differ by class, so check each class’s entry in the guide before planning a route.

  1. Obtain the tier license for the class you want. According to Pocket Tactics, licenses come from a vendor or from exploration.
  2. Reach the Renown gate for the tier. The guide and the community reference both give Renown level 4 for Specialty and Renown level 8 for Advanced. The community reference says Beginner exams open early and does not list a Renown figure for Beginner.
  3. Sit the class’s Certification Exam. The guide describes the exam as a skill check and lists suggested character levels for each tier.
  4. Check for any route or quest requirement. The guide documents these for some classes, but the sources we could check do not establish them for every class.

What is still unconfirmed

  • Master and Divine classes: no verified catalogue of these tiers, their exams, or their route conditions is available from the sources we checked.
  • Exact per-class requirements: the community reference marks some fields as not recorded, and its tier counts do not line up cleanly with the Pocket Tactics guide. It appears to be still being reconciled.
  • Patch changes: any later update could change class lists, exam requirements, or Renown gates. Check the official Nintendo news pages and the guides’ update dates before relying on a specific figure.

When you find a class that does not appear in this list, it may be real but unverified here, so confirm it in a current guide or in your own save before treating it as a fact.

  • Use Fire Emblem series mechanics like the weapons triangle, character classes, crests, and battalions to tailor your strategy

Nintendo’s official overview is the source to rely on for the three tier names and the stated counts. Guide-listed names and unlock conditions should be treated as reported information.
