Yes, according to a report from The Strategic Council, as covered by MobileSyrup on October 8, 2026. Most newcomers to Canada hold positive opinions of Rogers and Bell, and a smaller majority hold positive opinions of TELUS. Newcomers also choose a wireless provider and a home internet provider very quickly after arriving, and which brand family leads depends on the service and the region. The figures below are MobileSyrup’s account of the study, so they are reported figures rather than official statistics.
How newcomers view the three largest carriers
The reputation finding is positive, but it is not uniform across the three companies. According to MobileSyrup’s account, about seven in ten newcomers held positive opinions of Rogers and Bell, compared with about six in ten for TELUS. Only about one in ten held a negative opinion of any of the three.
- Rogers and Bell: roughly 70% positive opinions each.
- TELUS: roughly 60% positive opinions.
- Negative opinions: roughly 10% for any of the three Big Three providers.
A positive opinion is a survey response, not evidence that reputation caused anyone to pick a carrier. The study describes what newcomers think; it does not explain why they chose a provider.

Wireless: most newcomers pick a carrier almost immediately
MobileSyrup reports that 74% of newcomers had selected a wireless provider within their first month in Canada. Of those, 55% had done so before arriving or during their first week. In the study, “newcomer” means a person who moved to Canada from 2021 onward.

Wireless customers are also grouped by brand family, which matters because value brands sit under the larger companies. MobileSyrup reports the following shares of newcomer mobile relationships:
| Provider family | Brands included in the family, as reported | Share of newcomer mobile relationships |
|---|---|---|
| Rogers family | Rogers, Fido, Chatr | 38% |
| Bell family | Bell, Virgin Plus, Lucky Mobile | 33% |
| TELUS family | TELUS and associated brands | 17% |
| Quebecor | Not itemised in the MobileSyrup account | 9% |
| All other providers | Not itemised | About 3% |
Because these are family-level totals, a reader comparing brands should look at the family rather than a single brand name.

Arrival timing: Bell has moved ahead among recent arrivals
MobileSyrup reports that Rogers historically had a larger lead over Bell among newcomers. Among people who arrived in the preceding two years, Bell had moved slightly ahead. The account does not give the size of that margin, so no exact gap should be inferred. This is the clearest sign in the report that an all-newcomer average can differ from what recent arrivals experience.

- Do not read the percentages as describing every newcomer in Canada. The study’s definition of a newcomer is the only population detail given.
- Do not compare these numbers directly with other surveys until the underlying methodology is available.
- Market share and reputation do not indicate plan price, network coverage quality, or eligibility for any offer.
How to use this if you are choosing a provider
- Note which family a brand belongs to. Fido and Chatr sit under Rogers, Virgin Plus and Lucky Mobile under Bell, and the MobileSyrup account groups Videotron/Fizz with Quebec home internet results.
- Check coverage at your own address on each provider’s website before deciding, since regional leadership in the report varies widely.
- Compare plan terms directly, including contract length, device financing, and monthly costs, because the study does not address any of these.
- If you live in Quebec, include Videotron/Fizz in your home internet comparison alongside Bell and Rogers.
