The Rega Planar 6 RS Edition is a special version of the Planar 6 that adds selected engineering features associated with the Planar 8 while keeping the Planar 6’s familiar plinth shape and dustcover. Rega specifies an RB880 tonearm, a twin-belt drive and a Neo MK2 power supply. Buyers can choose a factory-fit Nd9 moving-magnet (MM) cartridge or Ania moving-coil (MC) cartridge; Rega also lists an Ania MC bundle with its Fono MC phono stage.
What is the Rega Planar 6 RS Edition?
“RS” stands for Rega Special. Rega describes the model as adopting key engineering features from the next-tier Planar 8 while retaining the classic Planar 6 form factor and dustcover. The launch announcement, dated 19 March 2026, initially described an RB880 tonearm and factory-aligned Nd9 MM cartridge; Rega’s current product page also lists an Ania MC configuration and an Ania MC package with a Fono MC stage.
That makes the RS Edition a distinct Planar 6 configuration, rather than simply another name for the standard Planar 6. The manufacturer’s feature descriptions and specifications explain what is included, but do not establish that one cartridge configuration or the RS Edition itself sounds better than another turntable. Rega’s Planar 6 RS Edition product page and its 19 March 2026 launch announcement are the primary sources for the model details.

Rega’s specification centers on the tonearm, drive and power supply, alongside a lightweight, braced plinth. These are manufacturer design descriptions, not independently measured performance results.

RB880 tonearm and twin-belt drive
The RS Edition uses Rega’s RB880 tonearm. Rega describes its bearing housing, shaft, tube and low-capacitance phono cable as part of the arm’s design. The motor is a hand-tuned 24 V synchronous type, driving a CNC twin-drive pulley and two Reference EBLT belts. Rega says the double-belt arrangement is intended to improve speed stability; that is a design claim, not a comparative test result established by the specifications.
Neo MK2 power supply
The included Neo MK2 PSU provides electronic speed change, fine speed adjustment and an anti-vibration motor circuit, according to Rega. It connects to the turntable by mini-DIN; Rega specifies the PS1 wall adapter only. The power supply is therefore part of the stated system, not an optional generic adapter to substitute without checking the manual and warranty terms.

Plinth and platter
Rega specifies a Tancast 8 foam-core plinth with a high-pressure laminate finish, brushed aluminium skin and matching edging. Its double-brace construction reinforces the area between the tonearm mounting and main bearing. The platter is 16 mm, dual-layer float glass, described by Rega as Opti-white clear.

The documented choices differ first in cartridge type: Nd9 is moving magnet, while Ania is moving coil. The right fit depends on your listening preference and the phono input or stage in your system. The available manufacturer information does not provide a controlled comparison that establishes one as categorically better.

Do not assume a receiver’s phono input supports both cartridge types: check its documentation for MM and MC compatibility, or use an appropriate external phono stage. Rega advises buyers to ask a dealer for details about the Ania MC and Fono MC bundle. Its announcement of additional Ania options describes the bundle, but does not establish that every market or retailer stocks it.

Setup, power and warranty checks
- Use the matching manual. Rega links separate setup manuals for Nd9 and Ania configurations. Follow the manual supplied for your cartridge rather than assuming another Planar model’s instructions apply.
- Check the power arrangement. The listed setup uses the Neo MK2 PSU and Rega PS1 wall adapter, with the turntable connected to the PSU by mini-DIN.
- Confirm the package before purchase. Ask the retailer which cartridge is fitted, whether the Fono MC is included in an Ania bundle, and what accessories are in the box. Stock and package availability may vary by dealer and country.
- Read the warranty terms for your market. Rega describes a lifetime limited warranty against confirmed manufacturing defects, excluding wear and tear and consumable parts. It says unauthorised modifications or failure to follow the manual may affect coverage, and that warranty conditions vary by country. Ask the retailer or distributor for the applicable local terms.
