Connecting ChatGPT to apps you already use can simplify recurring tasks such as finding music, narrowing down hikes, organizing a to-do list, planning workouts, and discovering podcasts. A TechRadar feature by Eric Hal Schwartz, published August 27, 2026, describes using Spotify, AllTrails, Todoist, FitAI Pro, and Podcast App for those jobs. The examples are the author’s reported experience—not independent tests—and no measured time-saving figure was provided. Availability and supported actions can vary, so check what is offered in your own ChatGPT account.
What ChatGPT app integrations can do
OpenAI describes connected apps as services ChatGPT can use to find or summarize information and, where supported, take actions. In current terminology, plugins can package a workflow using one or more apps, skills, or both. The app does not necessarily have permission to do everything your provider account can do: access depends on the permissions you grant and the actions the integration supports.
These five examples are best understood as task ideas, not a promise that every named app is currently available to every user. ChatGPT availability may depend on your plan, region, workspace, role, model, and interface. A listing in a directory also does not mean that you have connected the provider account or met workspace administrator requirements.

Spotify: shape music around an activity
The feature’s author describes asking Spotify for playlists based on constraints such as length, mood, genre mix, and how energy should build or taper. They also report using it to rediscover artists and find podcasts. A more useful request specifies the whole listening situation rather than simply asking for a playlist: “Make a 40-minute playlist for an easy evening run. Keep the mood upbeat, mix indie pop with familiar dance tracks, start gently, build energy in the middle, and finish with a calmer song. Exclude [artist or track].”

Use follow-ups to refine what you actually hear—for example, request fewer unfamiliar tracks or a slower start. The reported workflow does not establish that every Spotify account or ChatGPT setup supports those exact actions.
AllTrails: narrow a hike shortlist, then verify it
The author reports using location and practical constraints to compare trail options. Include drive time, distance, elevation gain, whether children or dogs are coming, shade, accessibility needs, and parking preferences. For example: “Shortlist hikes within a 45-minute drive of [place], under five miles, with moderate elevation gain, shade where possible, and parking. We have a dog; note any trail restrictions.”
Use the response to identify candidates and compare trade-offs, not as a safety guarantee. Trail conditions and access can change. Before leaving, check recent reviews, closures, weather, and the official route information.
Todoist: turn a task list into a draft schedule
The feature describes ordering errands, estimating a schedule, previewing the result, and creating recurring household reminders. To keep control over changes, start with a draft request: “Put these errands in a sensible order for Saturday, allow 30 minutes for each stop plus travel time, and show me the proposed schedule before adding anything to Todoist.” Review the order, time estimates, and any proposed recurring tasks before approving supported changes.
FitAI Pro: plan around available time and equipment
The author reports providing experience level, equipment, training days, and session duration, then asking for a plan and substitutions for movements they disliked. A constrained prompt could be: “Draft three 30-minute beginner sessions for this week using only [equipment]. Include alternatives for [movement], and keep the sessions distinct.” This describes a planning workflow; it is not medical advice or a substitute for individualized guidance from a qualified professional.
Podcast App: find episodes by idea, length, and expertise
Instead of searching only for a show name, the feature’s author describes looking for episodes by topic or idea, then narrowing by length and the expertise level they wanted. Try: “Find an episode about [topic] that is under 45 minutes and aimed at someone new to the subject. Explain in one sentence why it fits.” Confirm the episode’s description and details before relying on the recommendation.

How to connect an app in ChatGPT
The exact labels and available controls can vary by account and interface. OpenAI’s general flow is to find an available app or plugin, review its requirements, connect the intended provider account, and authorize the requested access.

- Open its listing and check availability, supported actions, and any plan, region, or workspace requirements. If your workspace is managed, an administrator may need to enable access.
- Install or add the plugin if that option is offered, then choose the app you intend to use.
- Connect the provider account through its authorization flow. Read the requested permissions before approving them.
- In a supported conversation, invoke the app by name or select it from the interface, then make a specific request. OpenAI’s connected-app help gives this illustrative prompt: “Find my project brief in Google Drive and summarize the next steps.”
- Review the result and any requested action before proceeding. App use may be subject to ChatGPT or provider limits.
OpenAI’s current help explains app availability and data handling in Connected apps in ChatGPT. Workspace setup and plugin access are also covered in ChatGPT Business plugins. For historical context only, OpenAI’s October 6, 2025 app announcement described launch partners and scope at that time; it should not be treated as a current directory.
Check permissions and privacy before connecting
Review both the permissions requested during authorization and the app provider’s terms and privacy policy. OpenAI says connected-app information may be used in responses, and relevant information may be remembered when Memory is enabled, subject to source restrictions. OpenAI states that connected-app information is not used to train models by default for Business, Enterprise, and Edu. For Free, Plus, Go, and Pro, it may be used if “Improve the model for everyone” is enabled.
Permissions settings determine when ChatGPT asks before reading information or taking an action; they do not grant access beyond what the provider account authorized. You can disconnect an account in settings, but disconnection does not automatically delete existing conversations or saved memories. Which workflow is the best fit?
There is no evidence here to rank these integrations universally or quantify how much time they save. Choose based on the recurring job and how much checking the result requires:

- Shortlisting with real-world constraints: AllTrails can help organize candidate hikes, but route and safety checks remain essential.
OpenAI also maintains a business plugin directory with integrations for work services, but access may be limited by administrator settings and account permissions. Its listings are not a guarantee that an integration is available in a personal account.
