Is Bing removing favicons from organic search results? Not for everyone, based on the available report. Search Engine Watch observed a Bing results page with favicons missing from its organic listings, but Microsoft has not confirmed a general change or announced a rollout.
What changed in the reported Bing test?
On 8 October 2026, Search Engine Watch’s Sachin Patel reported seeing a Bing organic search results page without favicons beside its listings. The report includes a screenshot and describes the icons as absent throughout the observed page. That supports saying Bing was observed testing a favicon-free organic results layout—not that every Bing user or query now sees one.
The report does not quote Microsoft confirming the test, explain its purpose, or give a rollout schedule. It also does not specify the test’s geography, browser or device, logged-in status, audience size, or duration. No click-through or brand-recognition results are provided.

Bing has also been reported testing favicon changes in other parts of its results page. Those reports concern different placements and behaviors, not the October removal observation.

| Report | Placement | Reported change | Evidence and scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| Search Engine Watch, 8 October 2026 | Organic listings | Favicons absent across the observed page | Reporter observation and screenshot; wider audience and rollout scope not stated |
| Search Engine Roundtable, 4 June 2026 | Top sponsored ad | Favicon reported as about 33% larger than icons in organic listings and lower ads in the example | A separate size test; the reporter said he could replicate the display |
| Search Engine Roundtable, 30 June 2026 | Source favicons at the top of a results page | Clicking an icon could open an overlay with more links rather than anchor the page to the corresponding result | A separate interaction test; both interaction variants were described |
Together, the reports show separate experiments involving favicon placement, size, or interaction. They do not establish why Bing might remove icons from organic listings, whether the tests are connected, or whether any became permanent.
What site owners should do
This observation alone is not a reason to redesign or remove a site’s favicon. It describes a choice in Bing’s results interface and does not indicate that a site’s configuration caused the icons to disappear. A missing icon in one observed layout is not, by itself, evidence of an implementation problem.

For comparison only, Google says a favicon can appear in Google Search results, but display is not guaranteed even when its requirements are met. That guidance applies to Google Search; it is not a statement of Bing’s requirements. Google Search Central’s favicon guidance was last updated 28 August 2026.
