Yahoo is testing a search box and suggested queries beneath its AI overview that take users to Yahoo Scout, according to Search Engine Watch’s October 8, 2026 report. The report describes an experiment, not a feature confirmed as available to everyone.
What Yahoo is testing below its AI overview
Search Engine Watch reporter Sachin Patel observed three elements in the reported test: an AI overview that users can expand, a query box beneath it, and a separate “Get AI answers with Yahoo Scout” module with three suggested long-tail queries. The layout offers two routes into Scout: enter a fresh query in the box or select one of the suggestions.
According to Search Engine Watch, typing in the box redirects the user to Yahoo Scout, and choosing a suggested query opens a new Scout query. The report does not say that the box continues a conversation within the overview or that the overview itself is a Scout answer.
How this differs from Yahoo’s existing query suggestions
Yahoo’s help page describes search predictions that appear while a user types and a “Searches related to” section. It says predictions are based on user queries and do not represent Yahoo’s views. That page explains existing query-suggestion features; it does not confirm the new Scout module beneath an AI overview. Yahoo Search Help: Search predictions

Yahoo had also been reported to show Scout-related query links in desktop results and mobile follow-up suggestions below the search bar in August 2026. Search Engine Watch’s August 13 report says those paths led into Scout. The October observation adds another reported placement, beneath an AI overview, but does not establish that all of these interfaces are available to all users. Search Engine Watch, August 13, 2026
What Yahoo Scout is
Yahoo’s January 27, 2026 announcement describes Scout as an AI answer engine that synthesizes information from the open web, Yahoo data, and Yahoo content. The announcement provides context for the destination of the tested links; it does not confirm the specific search-box experiment. Yahoo’s Scout announcement

They also report no measured effect on engagement, searches, or publisher traffic. The three suggested queries are a reported interface detail, not evidence of a broader performance result.
