Google’s UGC Fresh Data Program is an application-based pipeline for approved platforms to send user-generated content and interaction signals to Google Search. It is aimed at high-volume platforms such as forums and social services—not individual site owners looking for a faster way to index pages. Google says the program is separate from the Indexing API and ordinary organic crawling, and participation does not guarantee that content will appear in Search.
What is Google’s UGC Fresh Data Program?
Google describes the program as an initiative to help platforms surface fresh, high-quality, authentic user-generated content across Search features. Participating platforms can send content and interaction signals through a dedicated ingestion pipeline designed for trending UGC. Google’s program documentation was last updated October 8, 2026.
Google announced the documentation on October 8, 2026, in its Search documentation updates. The program is for platforms that apply and are approved; it is not a general-purpose indexing shortcut for anyone who publishes a page.
Does it replace the Indexing API or normal crawling?
No. Google describes the UGC Fresh Data Program as independent of both the Indexing API and traditional organic crawling, which remain separate systems for general web content. The distinction matters: a site owner cannot use this program as a substitute for ordinary Search crawling simply by submitting an application.

| Aspect | UGC Fresh Data Program | Indexing API or ordinary crawling |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | A specialized pipeline for trending UGC on eligible platforms | Google identifies these as separate systems for general web content; this program page does not provide a full technical comparison |
| Access | Application and Google approval are required | The UGC program is explicitly separate from the Indexing API |
| Expected result | Designed to support faster processing and updates; Search appearance is not guaranteed | Neither route should be presented as guaranteeing ranking or inclusion |
Who may be eligible?
Google’s criteria describe established platforms whose primary purpose is hosting material created by users, such as social posts or forum discussions. A platform should assess its content, access controls, technical setup, moderation, and publishing speed against the following requirements:
- Dedicated public pages: UGC should have stable, individual URLs, rather than existing only within a profile or feed.
- Meaningful scale: Google calls for a high volume of UGC and a significant user base; the public criteria do not specify numeric thresholds.
- Open access: Pages must be available to both Googlebot and users. Content behind a login or paywall is ineligible.
- Creator attribution: Each item must be attributable to a creator with a public profile.
- Structured data: The platform must already use, or be ready to implement, valid on-page schema.org markup across its URLs. Google gives
SocialMediaPostingandDiscussionForumPostingwithinteractionStatisticsubfields as examples. - Technical integration: The platform must be able to use secure OAuth 2.0 API authentication and produce strictly validated JSON-LD.
- Moderation and safety: The platform must not publish illegal content and must have active moderation, including a way for users to report content.
- Freshness: Google says content should be submitted as soon as possible, ideally within minutes. Engagement counters should be updated regularly within 72 hours of content creation.
How does a platform apply?
- Check the platform against Google’s criteria. Confirm that its UGC is public, individually addressable, creator-attributed, moderated, and supported by the required technical capabilities.
- Submit the interest form. Eligible platforms can express interest through the application form linked from Google’s program page. Applying does not guarantee acceptance.
- Wait for a status response. Google says it will respond about application status within 6–8 weeks. This is a stated response timeframe, not a promise of acceptance.
- Follow onboarding if selected. Google says accepted platforms will receive detailed technical integration documentation and onboarding instructions.
What happens after applying—and what is not promised?
Approval gives a platform access to onboarding for the dedicated pipeline; it does not promise that submitted items will be indexed, ranked, or displayed in any particular Search feature. Google explicitly warns that the program does not guarantee content will appear in Search. Its stated purpose is to help fresh content be processed and updated quickly, not to guarantee a Search outcome.
