Spoilers for Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival. GamesRadar+ writer Emma-Jane Betts identifies 13 possible Easter eggs and references, from film imagery and comic-book lore to tributes to Ozzy Osbourne and Lemmy Kilmister. Some matches are clearer than others, and the list reflects one writer’s exploration rather than a confirmed or exhaustive developer checklist.

What to know about Hellraiser: Revival

Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival is a single-player, first-person action survival-horror game. Its story follows Aidan after his girlfriend Sunny activates the Genesis Configuration, a puzzle box that also shapes gameplay. Saber describes it as a new story in the Hellraiser universe. Xbox Wire says it draws inspiration from the first two films but is not directly connected to their plots, so visual echoes should not be treated as proof of canonical continuity or developer-confirmed intent. Xbox Wire’s Q&A explains that distinction.

The PlayStation Blog’s August 19, 2026 preview covers environmental and box-based puzzles, inventory management, and a campaign estimated by Assistant Game Director Vid Rajin at 8–12 hours depending on skill and difficulty. It gives October 8, 2026 as the PS5 launch date; that date has passed, but this does not establish availability on every platform. Read the PlayStation Blog preview.

The 13 reported Easter eggs and references

The locations and interpretations below are reported by GamesRadar+’s guide. Its descriptions of objects or text are distinct from its suggestions about what they mean; treat the latter as interpretations unless the connection is explicit.

  1. A mattress dragged away by chains

On the first entry into Hell, a mattress is thrown in front of the player and pulled away by chains. Betts connects the image to the first two Hellraiser films, particularly Julia’s resurrection in Hellraiser II. The guide does not identify the mattress as a specific prop.

  2. A detective with wires cutting into his face

Near the first gun, a dead detective has a head contraption with wires pressing into his face. The guide compares it to Dr. Philip Channard’s transformation in Hellraiser II.

  3. The shopkeeper identified as an Eremite

A document beside the shopkeeper reportedly identifies her as an Eremite. The term links to the skeletal, winged figure in the first film and to Hellraiser comics lore, according to the guide.

  4. Orno named in the same note

The note also reportedly mentions Orno. The guide identifies him as a comics Cenobite associated with creating new puzzle boxes; this is a lore connection reported by the guide, not a separate confirmation from the game’s developers.

  5. A grave that appears to honor Ozzy Osbourne

An inscription, glasses, bat statues, and purple candles around a grave are read as a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne. The guide also points to Osbourne’s song “Hellraiser” as part of the connection.

  6. A cowboy hat linked to Lemmy Kilmister

A cowboy hat near the grave is interpreted as a nod to Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister. The guide connects the tribute with Motörhead’s “Hellraiser” and the band’s association with Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth.

  7. A magazine titled “Damballa”

A magazine bearing the name “Damballa” may point to Child’s Play and the broader 1980s horror scene. Betts cautions that books and magazines can be stock assets, so the title alone does not establish a deliberate reference.

  8. A cultist note called “Hell on Earth”

The title of a cultist’s note matches the subtitle of the third film, Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth. The shared wording makes this one of the more direct textual echoes in the list.

  9. A yellow balloon that might evoke IT

The guide suggests that a yellow balloon could recall the balloon in the 1990s IT miniseries, but calls the match a stretch and notes there are no other IT signifiers. It is best read as a possibility, not a firm identification.

  10. Steam achievements that quote or echo other works

Betts points to achievement names as references spanning several franchises. The guide associates these examples with Hellraiser, Resident Evil 4, Seven, The Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars:

    • “Only Nightmares Last Forever”
    • “A waste of good suffering”
    • “What Are You Selling?” and “What are you buying?”
    • “What’s in the Box”
    • “No life in the void, only death”
    • “Burn, oh such a limited imagination”
    • “Unlimited Power”

The guide does not map every phrase to a specific work in its summary, so these examples are best treated as its set of cross-franchise identifications rather than a definitive one-to-one key.

  11. Tentacles ending in surgical blades

Some hallways feature tentacles tipped with surgical blades. The guide compares them to the Doctor and Channard imagery in Hellraiser II.

  12. A Red Dragon-like painting in Marlowe’s mansion

A painting in Marlowe’s mansion is described as an interpretation of William Blake’s Red Dragon. Betts also draws a thematic comparison with the villain of Thomas Harris’s Red Dragon, while noting that the painting is not an exact replica.

  13. A “Jesus Wept” visual echo

Depending on the player’s choice, a scene may resemble Frank Cotton being pulled by chains in the first Hellraiser film. The guide stresses that the image is not an exact replica and Aidan does not say the line “Jesus wept.”

How certain are these connections?

The evidence varies. A note’s wording, an achievement title, or a distinctive cluster of grave objects gives a reader something concrete to compare; a shared color or general resemblance is less decisive. GamesRadar+ presents these as findings and interpretations from its author’s exploration, not as a developer-confirmed list. The strongest framing is therefore “a reference the guide identifies” or “a possible echo,” rather than “a confirmed Easter egg.”

The game’s broader influences do not settle the intent behind each individual detail. Xbox Wire describes Revival as a new universe story inspired by the first two films, rather than a direct continuation of their plots. That supports looking for visual and thematic callbacks without assuming every callback establishes story continuity.
