To remove the glass shelf in the lower part of a Samsung refrigerator, first find out which of two designs you have. A simple shelf lifts out once the crisper drawers are removed. A more complex shelf sits in a housing beside the water-filter area and must be released with tabs. Only a shelf with removable retainer clips can have its glass separated from its plastic frame. If yours has no clips, leave the glass and frame together and clean them as one unit.
The steps below follow Samsung’s US and Canadian support guidance and its Gulf-region article. Layouts differ between models, so if your hardware does not match these descriptions, check the manual for your exact model code.
Identify your shelf type before you pull anything
The shelf sits above the crisper drawers, so it is the one many owners call the bottom shelf. Open both doors fully and look at how it is attached before removing any parts.
Simple lift-out shelf
This design has no housing or release tabs. Once the crisper drawers are out, the shelf lifts and slides free.

Complex shelf assembly
This design connects to a drawer divider and a water-filter housing, and it is held by release tabs on either side of that divider. Removing it takes more steps, and you must remove the lower door bins and both crisper drawers first.
Remove a simple lift-out shelf
- Fully open both doors.
- Remove the crisper drawers by pulling them straight out until they stop.
- Lift one side of the shelf while supporting the other side with your free hand.
- Slide the shelf out of the refrigerator opening.
Remove a complex shelf assembly
- Fully open both doors and remove the lower door bins.
- Remove both crisper drawers. Samsung advises angling each drawer slightly toward the center while sliding it out.
- Locate the release tabs on either side of the drawer divider, just behind the roller wheels, near the water-filter housing.
- Press and hold both tabs inward. Support the water-filter housing with your other hand so it does not shift or crack the connection.
- Lift the shelf assembly out of the housing.
- Lift the rear edge slightly to clear it from the refrigerator wall. Then angle one side downward and pull the shelf out through the opening.
- Set the shelf on a clean, flat surface.
Separate the glass only if the shelf has retainer clips
Some shelves have removable retainer clips at the back left and right corners, where the glass meets the frame. If you do not find them, do not try to pry the glass out. Samsung states that some models are not designed to separate, and forcing them may damage the shelf.

If your shelf has clips:
- Turn the shelf over onto a clean, flat surface.
- At each rear corner, press the inner tab on the clip toward the center while gently lifting the corner.
- Remove both clips.
- Lift the glass out of the plastic frame.
Reinstall the shelf
Reverse the removal steps. For a standard Samsung shelf, hold the front edge higher than the back, engage the top hook in the top notch, then lower the shelf so the bottom hook enters its notch. If you separated the glass from the frame, reattach the clips before reinstalling. Confirm the shelf sits level and is fully seated before loading food.

Glass shelves can break and cause injury, so handle them with care. Samsung’s US support article is direct on this point: “Never clean the glass shelf with warm or hot water, as this could cause the glass to shatter.” Let a cold shelf reach room temperature first, then wash it with lukewarm water.

If debris is trapped between the glass and frame on a shelf without removable clips, Samsung advises soaking the complete shelf in a water-and-bleach solution. Follow the cleaner’s label for dilution and rinsing, and check your refrigerator manual for any additional precautions. Do not try to separate the glass to reach the debris.

Replacement shelves are model-specific. Use your refrigerator’s model code to find the correct part through Samsung’s parts lookup, and confirm the part number matches your market before ordering. A shelf designed for a different model or region may not fit the same opening or hook positions.
