“History” depends on what you’re trying to find. For websites, open the browser you used; for Google searches or account activity, check Google My Activity; for places and routes, check Google Maps; for calls, use the Phone app. These records are kept separately, so one app’s history won’t show everything you did on your phone.

Find the right history for what you’re looking for

What you want to find Where to check
Web pages Chrome or Safari history
Google searches or saved Google activity Google My Activity
Places visited or routes Google Maps Timeline, if enabled
Calls The Phone app’s call list

Start with the app you used. A browser history list is different from activity saved to a Google Account, and both are different from Maps location records or call history.

Find browser history

Chrome on iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Tap More, then History.

Google says Chrome’s list includes pages visited in the last 90 days. It excludes Chrome settings pages, Incognito pages, and pages deleted from history. If history sync is enabled while you’re signed in, the list may also include pages from other devices. Google Chrome Help: Check or delete your Chrome browsing history.

Chrome on Android

  1. Open Chrome and tap More, then History.
  2. If the address bar is at the bottom, swipe up on it and tap History.
  3. Tap a listed page to open it again.

Incognito pages and deleted pages don’t appear in the list. When history sync is enabled, Chrome may show pages from other signed-in devices. Google Chrome Help: Check or delete your Chrome browsing history.

The control’s placement can vary with Safari’s tab layout. Apple also provides a separate route for clearing browsing data: Settings > Apps > Safari > Clear History and Website Data. Don’t use that clearing option if you only want to view your history. Apple iPhone User Guide: Clear your cache and cookies.

Safari Private Browsing tabs don’t appear in iPhone History or in the tab list on other devices. Safari history can stay up to date across Apple devices when you use the same Apple Account and have Safari enabled in iCloud. Apple Support: Clear your browsing history in Safari.

Find Google searches and account activity

  1. Open your Google Account.
  2. Choose Data & privacy.
  3. Select My Activity, then use the date or search controls to find activity.

My Activity shows activity saved by Google services, arranged by date and time. It doesn’t contain every type of saved Google data: Google says Location History may instead be available in Maps Timeline. Google Account Help: Find & view activity.

This is separate from Chrome’s browser history. Chrome history may sync across devices when that feature is enabled, while My Activity is an account page for activity saved by Google services.

Find Google Maps searches, places, and routes

Check Maps activity on iPhone

  1. Open Google Maps and tap your profile picture or initial.
  2. Open Your data in Maps, then Search Services History to look for searches and other Maps activity.
  3. For activity connected with a particular place, open that place’s overview and look for Your visits and Maps history.

Google notes that Search Services History settings are being updated, so labels may vary by account or app version. Google Maps Help: Manage your Maps activity.

Check Timeline on Android

  1. Open Google Maps and tap your profile picture or initial.
  2. Tap Your Timeline.

Google’s current Android instructions require Maps version 11.106 or later; Timeline isn’t available on Android Go devices. Timeline only shows visits and routes saved while the feature was enabled. Google Maps Help states, “Timeline is off by default for your Google Account and can only be turned on if you opt in.” Google Maps Help: Manage your Google Maps Timeline.

Find Android call history

  1. Open Google’s Phone app.

Why an item may not appear

  • You’re checking the wrong app or account: browser pages, Google account activity, Maps records, and calls are stored separately.
  • The record wasn’t saved: private browsing doesn’t appear in the relevant browser history, and Maps Timeline only has visits or routes saved while it was on.
  • The entry was deleted or aged out: Chrome excludes deleted pages and its listed history covers the last 90 days.
  • You expected one clear action to erase everything: clearing Safari browsing data doesn’t clear histories kept independently by websites or other apps. Apple Support: Clear your browsing history in Safari.

These steps cover the documented routes for Chrome and Safari browsing, Google activity and Maps records, and Android calls. The cited guidance does not establish an iPhone call-history route or steps for finding text-message history.
