The 2025 Roku Streaming Stick (HD), model 3840R, is a sensible fit for an HD television or a secondary set if you want a compact streamer with a voice remote and do not need 4K. Its firm limit is resolution: it outputs up to 1080p, so owners of 4K TVs should compare Roku’s 4K models instead.
Verdict: a good fit when 1080p is enough
Roku calls the 3840R its new 2025 entry-level HD streaming device. Its main appeal is a small stick that plugs into HDMI, supports dual-band Wi-Fi, and can draw power from the TV. The included Voice Remote also has TV power, volume, and mute buttons, which Roku says work with most TVs.
That combination makes the device worth considering for an HD television, a guest room, or another secondary screen. It is not a way to get 4K from a 4K television: the stick tops out at 1080p. Roku’s product specifications list the model and features.

What picture quality does the Roku Streaming Stick (HD) support?
Roku lists output up to 1080p (1920 × 1080), with upscaling from 720p. There is no 4K output. Upscaling can enlarge a 720p source for display, but it does not turn that source into native 1080p or 4K.

Design, power, and setup considerations
A slim HDMI stick
The device measures 3.7 × 0.80 × 0.45 inches and weighs 0.90 ounces (26 g). It plugs into an HDMI port, and Roku says its stick design is intended not to block neighboring HDMI ports. Roku says its sticks work with TVs that have an HDMI port.

TV-powered, with USB-C input
Power connects through USB-C; the listed input is 5V/1A, and Roku gives typical power consumption while streaming as approximately 2.2 W. Roku says the stick can be powered by the TV, which may avoid using a wall outlet. The published specification does not establish that every TV USB port supplies sufficient power, so use the included setup guidance if the TV port does not power the stick reliably.

The package includes the Streaming Stick, a Roku Voice Remote, two pre-installed AAA batteries, and a USB-C-to-USB-A power cable. The remote has Roku voice search and playback controls, plus buttons for TV power, volume, and mute. Roku qualifies that the TV-control functions work with most TVs.
Roku also describes Bluetooth Headphone Mode for private listening. Its product page lists compatibility with Roku Smart Home, Apple AirPlay and HomeKit, Google Home, and Alexa. Third-party features may change or be removed; Alexa and Google Home require compatible assistant devices.

How it compares with Roku’s 4K sticks
Roku’s comparison is clearest when matched to the television and the features you want. Compatible TV and content are required for 4K, HDR, and Dolby Vision benefits; choosing a 4K stick will not make an HD TV display 4K, and not every stream is available in those formats.
| Device | Roku-listed picture capability | Other distinction | Best match |
|---|---|---|---|
| Roku Streaming Stick (HD), 2025 | Up to 1080p HD | Slim, TV-powered design; dual-band Wi-Fi | HD television |
| Roku Streaming Stick Plus (4K) | 4K with HDR10+ | Slim, TV-powered design; dual-band Wi-Fi | 4K TV with HDR |
| Roku Streaming Stick 4K | 4K with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision | Long-range Wi-Fi | Buyer seeking 4K, HDR, Dolby Vision, and long-range Wi-Fi |
Roku notes that 4K content may be limited or unavailable and may require additional payment. Its device comparison recommends the Plus for a 4K HDR TV and the Streaming Stick 4K for buyers who also want Dolby Vision and long-range Wi-Fi.

How it differs from Roku Express
Roku describes the HD stick as the updated comparable choice for its Express, which it says is no longer available for purchase. Both are HD devices listed up to 1080p, but the form factor differs: the stick plugs directly into the television, can be powered by the TV, and includes a remote with TV power and volume controls. This comparison is useful mainly for someone replacing or considering an older Express, rather than as a reason to expect a higher resolution.
Price and customer ratings: check current details
Roku’s product page showed changing promotional prices in captured versions, so those snapshots do not establish today’s price. TechRadar reported a Black Friday Amazon price of $15, down from $29.99, on November 29, 2025; that was a dated deal, not a current-price quote. Check the live listing and stock before purchase.
At access time, Roku’s product page displayed 4.8 out of 5 from 3,134 customer reviews and said 892 of 1,011 reviewers recommended the product. These are mutable, manufacturer-hosted customer-review figures, not an independent expert score or laboratory performance test. TechRadar’s November 2025 deal article framed the stick as a basic option for entry-level or guest TVs and offered limited independent context; it is not a substitute for a full comparative test.
Quick Recap
Who should buy it?
- Consider it for an HD TV, a guest-room screen, or another secondary television where a discreet HDMI stick and the included voice remote suit your needs.
- Choose a 4K model instead if you want 4K output. Compare the Plus for 4K with HDR10+, or the Streaming Stick 4K if Dolby Vision and long-range Wi-Fi matter to you.
- Check the setup details if you plan to power it from a TV USB port or rely on a third-party smart-home integration.
