No—Meta does not automatically publish every conversation with its AI. Meta says a post reaches the Meta AI app’s Discover feed only when a user chooses to share or post it. But reporting has documented people appearing unaware that they had completed that public-sharing step, including with sensitive material. Discover sharing is separate from Meta’s use of AI interactions for recommendations and AI training.
Are my Meta AI chats public?
Not automatically, according to Meta. When the company launched its standalone Meta AI app on April 29, 2025, it described Discover as a place to explore prompts and share AI-related content. Meta said, “nothing is shared to your feed unless you choose to post it.” The Associated Press described Discover as a social feed focused on AI use cases, rather than a place where every chat appears by default.
That distinction matters: a conversation can become public if someone chooses to share an item through the app’s sharing flow, but the available evidence does not establish that ordinary chats are automatically posted. Meta separately says that conversations with Meta AI on its AI glasses do not appear in Discover unless the user chooses to share them; that statement is specifically about glasses conversations.

Tom’s Guide reported on June 13, 2025 that Discover included text conversations, audio clips, and images, and that some users appeared not to realize they had made items public. Citing TechCrunch for the sharing process, the report described a Share button, a preview, and a publish step. Completing that flow makes the selected item public in Discover.

The report’s examples included health and bodily concerns, legal questions, and employment documents containing identifying information. Those examples show why it is worth checking what you share, but they are not a representative sample or evidence that all conversations were exposed. The sources cited here do not establish a reliable count or rate of accidental publication.
How do I know if I shared a chat to Discover?
The key question is whether you went beyond viewing or generating content and completed the share-and-publish flow. The reported flow included a preview before publication, followed by a publish step. If you are unsure, review your Meta AI app and its Discover-related sharing controls for items you may have posted; app labels and available controls can change, and the cited reporting does not establish a single current menu path for checking or removing posts.

- Do not assume that asking Meta AI a question alone posts it to Discover.
- Before confirming a share, inspect the preview for personal details in text, images, or audio.
- If an item is already visible publicly, use the app’s available post controls to remove or change it, if offered. The cited sources do not specify a universal removal path.
How Discover sharing differs from recommendations and AI training
Public posting, recommendation personalization, and AI model training are different data practices. A Discover post is an item the user chooses to publish; recommendation personalization uses interaction signals to tailor content or ads; training concerns data used to develop AI models. One should not be treated as proof of the others.

What this means for sensitive conversations
Treat a share confirmation as a publication decision, not as a private continuation of your chat. Check the preview for names, contact details, health information, workplace documents, or other content you would not want publicly visible. If a question is highly sensitive, avoid putting identifying information into content you might share.

There is no physical product that controls Meta AI’s service-side share-to-publish flow or reverses a post. The practical safeguard is to review the item and audience before publishing, then use the app’s available controls if you need to remove a post.
