Turn on your monitor’s pixel-shifting, logo-dimming and idle-screen protection features, and leave its automatic OLED maintenance enabled. These targeted protections can reduce exposure of fixed bright elements without dimming the whole picture all the time. Use a comfortable brightness for your room, but there is no universal percentage that prevents burn-in across OLED monitors.
Which OLED settings should you enable?
Start with the protections built into your monitor. Their names, availability and behavior vary by model, so confirm the options in its on-screen display (OSD) or manual.
| Setting | What it does | Image-quality trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Pixel Shift / Screen Move | Moves the image slightly so fixed features do not remain at precisely the same pixel locations. Samsung calls this Pixel Shift; ASUS calls it Screen Move. Samsung and ASUS describe these model-specific features. | Usually a subtle change, though the movement level and visibility depend on the model. |
| Logo brightness / logo dimming | Reduces brightness in detected logo regions rather than dimming the entire screen. Samsung says High dims logos more than Low. Samsung support | You may notice the affected logo or other detected region looking dimmer; choose a level you find acceptable. |
| Screen saver / idle dimming | Dims or protects an unchanged image during idle periods. ASUS describes its Screen Saver as automatically lowering brightness when the screen content does not change. ASUS support | Useful when you step away, but some HDR presets on the documented ASUS models disable this feature. |
| Automatic panel maintenance | Runs the monitor’s built-in optimization or cleaning routine according to that model’s conditions. | Requires the monitor to remain off or in standby for its cycle; timing and interruption behavior are model-specific. |
Enable Pixel Shift or Screen Move if offered. For logo dimming, begin with the default or a moderate setting; raise it if fixed bright logos or game HUDs dominate your use and the local dimming looks acceptable. Enable an idle screen saver where compatible, and set your computer or monitor to blank, dim or sleep after periods of inactivity.

Choose brightness for the room and the content rather than leaving the monitor at maximum by default. RTINGS identifies maximum brightness combined with unchanging content as a higher-risk pattern, but its guidance does not establish a universal brightness percentage or nit target for OLED monitors. - Samsung’s 27” Odyssey OLED G6 Gaming Monitor is engineered for perfection with a QD-OLED Display featuring QHD resolution made to deliver high brightness and a wide range of colors for gameplay
- OLED Safeguard technology supports performance by actively helping to prevent burn-in with a thermal modulation system
- Glare Free Technology keeps screen clear of reflection from external light sources
- The Pantone Validated screen accurately reproduces 2100+ lifelike colors and 110+ skin tone shades
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadows for added depth and more realistic scenes
A blanket brightness reduction is not a good substitute for the more targeted settings above: it affects the whole image and may not suit HDR content. Adjust brightness for the mode you are using, and avoid assuming that an SDR recommendation applies unchanged to HDR.
Why fixed content matters more than a single setting
The practical pattern to limit is bright content that stays in the same place for long periods: desktop taskbars, application toolbars, persistent windows and game HUDs are common examples. A varied mix of games, video and other changing content is different from leaving the same bright interface visible for hours. RTINGS notes that use case matters and identifies unvarying content at maximum brightness as a concern. RTINGS

- ADAPTIVE-SYNC TECHNOLOGY: Eliminate screen tearing and stuttering with Adaptive-Sync compatibility, ensuring a seamless and fluid gaming experience.
If your work consists mainly of the same bright applications in fixed positions for many hours each day, OLED carries a trade-off that protection settings cannot eliminate. These features reduce exposure patterns; they are not a guarantee against burn-in.
Let automatic OLED maintenance finish
Panel maintenance is specific to the manufacturer and model. Keep the monitor connected to power as its instructions require, and avoid turning it on during an automatic cycle. Do not make a long manual refresh a routine preventive step unless your monitor’s instructions tell you to.

Samsung OLED monitors
On supported Samsung models, the cited menu path is Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > Panel Care. Samsung says Pixel Shift is on by default on supported models and recommends checking that it remains enabled; Adjust Logo Brightness offers Low and High, with High dimming logos further. The default logo adjustment is Low. Samsung support
Samsung says Screen Optimization starts after at least four cumulative screen hours, runs after the monitor is turned off and takes about 10–15 minutes. Disconnecting power interrupts it. Pixel Refresh is available only on some models. These timings and menu options are Samsung-specific, not a universal OLED-monitor schedule. Samsung support

ASUS OLED monitors
For the cited ROG PG OLED models, the menu route is System Setup > Screen Protection. Options include Screen Saver, Screen Move and Adjust Logo Brightness. ASUS says Pixel Cleaning activates automatically when the monitor turns off and stops if the monitor is powered on. Some listed HDR modes disable the Screen Saver feature. ASUS support
ASUS cautions that guidance may not fit every product in a series and that menus or operations can differ by software version. Check your exact model’s manual and OSD rather than assuming these paths apply to every ASUS OLED monitor. ASUS support
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to do if a protection feature is missing or behaves differently
- Look for equivalent names. Pixel Shift may be called Screen Move, and logo protection may appear as Adjust Logo Brightness or a similar label.
- Check the active picture mode. On the ASUS models covered by its support guidance, some HDR presets disable Screen Saver.
- Verify the exact model and software. Options and menu paths are not consistent across brands, models or firmware versions.
- Use computer idle settings as a fallback. Configure the display to blank, dim or sleep when inactive, especially if the monitor does not offer a compatible idle-dimming feature.
- Do not interrupt maintenance. Keep power connected when required and let the monitor complete its cycle while off.
How much protection do these settings provide?
The cited guidance supports practical risk reduction, not a promise that burn-in will never occur. The evidence does not establish a universal OLED-monitor failure rate, ideal brightness number or one setting combination that suits every model. One separately cited RTINGS figure concerns an LG OLED TV: its automatic pixel refresh runs after four cumulative hours, and LG told RTINGS it takes 7–10 minutes. That is TV-specific information, not a specification for OLED monitors. RTINGS’ LG OLED TV coverage
