The better choice depends first on the software your courses require. The Neo runs macOS Tahoe; Dell offers Windows 11 Home or Pro. Check course requirements for operating-system-specific applications, exam software, or peripherals before choosing. If both systems support your work, consider your existing devices and how much memory and storage your study workload needs.

- You use an iPhone or other Apple devices and value that ecosystem.
- Its fixed 8GB unified memory and 256GB or 512GB storage choices fit your workload.

Choose Dell XPS 13 DX13260 if
- Your classes or work require Windows.
- You want touch input, a backlit keyboard, or a lighter listed starting weight.
- You need the option to configure up to 32GB of memory or 1TB of storage.
- You have checked the selected processor configuration, port type, and live price.
How do the displays and keyboards compare?
Dell lists a larger 13.4-inch touchscreen with 2560 × 1600 resolution, a 30–120Hz refresh range, and 500-nit brightness. Apple lists the Neo’s 13.0-inch display at 2408 × 1506 and 500 nits, with sRGB color and no touch. On the published specifications, Dell offers touch input and a higher refresh-rate range; whether those matter depends on how you use a laptop.
Dell lists a backlit keyboard for the DX13260. Apple identifies the Neo keyboard as a Magic Keyboard, while Dell’s comparison page says it is not backlit. Backlighting can help in dim environments; keyboard feel is personal, so try both if that is important to you.

Which one has the ports and memory you need?
Ports and external displays
The Neo has one USB 3 USB-C port rated up to 10Gb/s, one USB 2 USB-C port rated up to 480Mb/s, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Apple says either USB-C port supports charging and lists support for one external display up to 4K at 60Hz while the built-in display is in use. Apple specifies a minimum 20W charging wattage.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The Dell has two USB-C ports, but their standard depends on the processor configuration. Dell lists two USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) Type-C ports with DisplayPort and power delivery on Core 5 systems; Core Ultra systems have two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports with DisplayPort 2.1 and power delivery. Dell lists no card reader. If you need a particular display connection or peripheral, confirm the exact SKU before buying rather than assuming every DX13260 has Thunderbolt.

Memory and storage
Apple lists the Neo with 8GB of unified memory and 256GB or 512GB of SSD storage. Dell shows 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB memory options and storage configurations up to 1TB. That flexibility can matter for memory-intensive work or a large local file library, but it does not by itself establish which laptop performs better. Match the configuration to your applications and files, and compare the price of that specific build.
What do the battery and performance claims actually mean?
Apple estimates up to 16 hours of video streaming and up to 11 hours of wireless web use for the Neo. Dell advertises up to 17 hours of Netflix streaming for the XPS 13 and identifies a Dell lab setup for a current configuration. These are vendor estimates under different stated conditions, not a controlled head-to-head test; they do not establish which laptop will last longer in your mix of apps, brightness settings, and network use.

Likewise, the processor names alone do not establish a general speed winner. Apple’s March 2026 announcement claimed the Neo was up to 50% faster for everyday tasks and up to 3× faster for some on-device AI workloads than a bestselling PC with a then-shipping Intel Core Ultra 5. Those are Apple-specified comparisons, not independent benchmarks of the Neo against the DX13260. Dell’s August 2026 comparison page says the XPS 13 wins seven of eleven categories and makes an internal claim of 2.1× faster Wi-Fi throughput versus the Neo; these are Dell-authored claims, not neutral adjudication. For sustained professional workloads, software development, or gaming, look for independent results for the exact configurations and applications you plan to use.

Dell’s comparison page, last updated in August 2026, instead said both laptops start at $699 and both student prices start at $599. That conflicts with Apple’s published launch prices and Dell’s product-page starting point, so it should not be treated as a current universal price comparison.
When should you pause before choosing?
If your priority is sustained professional performance, gaming, software development, multiple external displays, battery endurance, or repairability, these published specifications and vendor claims are not enough to settle the choice. The cited sources do not provide an independent, matched performance or battery test, or a detailed repairability comparison. Identify the exact workload and configuration, then seek evidence that tests those conditions rather than inferring a winner from marketing claims.
