Nothing has changed in your apps yet. Paramount completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery on October 6, 2026, so Paramount+ and HBO Max (the service many people still call Max) now share a corporate owner. The announced plan is to combine streaming products into one service over time. Reporting so far does not say that has happened, and it does not give a name, price or launch date for the combined service.
What is confirmed and what is only planned

Will HBO still be HBO?
CEO David Ellison addressed this in a statement the AP reports as earlier: “Our viewpoint is, HBO should stay HBO.” He added: “They built a phenomenal brand, they are a leader in this space and we just want them to continue doing more of it. But by bringing the platforms together, all of our content will be able to reach even a broader audience than we can do standalone.”
That is a statement of viewpoint, not a product commitment. It does not say whether HBO Max will survive as a separate app, a tier or a brand inside a larger service, so don’t read it as a guarantee about branding, app design or pricing.

Will I have to pay for both?
Nobody can say yet. The AP says consumer costs and consumer-choice implications are unknown. Bundling can mean savings, higher prices or a single pricier plan, and no source supports predicting which. Until pricing is announced, your current plan is the only price you can rely on.
Other services in the portfolio
Paramount+ and HBO Max are not the only streaming brands involved. The AP reports that Discovery+ came with the acquisition and names Paramount+, Pluto TV and BET+ among Paramount’s services. Their integration outcomes have not been spelled out, so don’t assume any of them will be folded in, kept or shut down.

How big would a combined service be?
The AP, citing JustWatch, reported in 2026 that Paramount+ and HBO Max together hold roughly 14% of the U.S. streaming market. It compared that with 17% for Amazon Prime and 19% for Netflix.
This is a JustWatch market-share estimate as reported by the AP. It is not an audited figure or a subscriber count, and it may not reflect today’s numbers. It shows the combined scale. It says nothing about whether prices or quality will change because of the merger.

What to do in the meantime
- Keep your current plan as it is. No change, migration or deadline has been announced.
- Don’t prepay long-term if you’re unsure. Plan names and prices may change once the unified service is announced.
- Decide by content. Keep whichever service has the shows and films you actually watch, since catalog overlap after integration is not yet known.
- Wait for official instructions before taking any action on your account. Billing and migration steps will come from the services themselves.
What to check when details are announced
- The confirmed monthly price and plan limits.
- Whether the shows and films you want are included in each tier.
- Ad-supported versus ad-free terms, plus simultaneous-stream and download limits.
- Account, billing and migration instructions, including whether your viewing history and profiles carry over.
- Whether the rollout differs by country. Reporting so far does not cover regional timing.
Where the plan started
Paramount Skydance’s official merger announcement of February 27, 2026 set out the original strategic case for combining the two companies’ streaming assets. The post-close AP coverage adds the “single service over time” language, but still no product details.
