No UPI payment feature is confirmed for JioFrames. Reliance Jio’s 29 August 2025 announcement described AI assistance, camera and audio features, and Jio AI Cloud storage, but did not mention UPI or QR payments. Meta has separately announced a forthcoming UPI Lite feature for its own AI glasses; that is not evidence of payment support on JioFrames.
Can I make UPI payments with Jio smart glasses?
Not on the basis of Reliance’s public JioFrames announcement. The AGM transcript lists the glasses’ announced functions but does not say they can scan payment QR codes, authenticate transactions, or make UPI payments. That means support is unconfirmed—not that Reliance has definitively ruled it out.
Reliance introduced JioFrames at its AGM on 29 August 2025 as an AI-powered wearable platform. The capabilities below are company-announced features, not results from an independent hands-on test. Read Reliance’s AGM transcript.
What Reliance announced for JioFrames
- Voice assistance: A Jio AI voice assistant with support for multiple Indian languages at launch.
- Camera and sharing: HD photos, video recording, and live streaming.
- Cloud storage: Reliance said captured memories would be stored in Jio AI Cloud.
- Everyday assistance: Spoken help with books and recipes, plus information about landmarks.
- Communication and audio: Calls, meetings, music, and podcasts, delivered with open-ear speakers.
The announcement does not describe UPI, QR scanning for payment, or how a transaction would be authorized. Those omissions leave payment support unresolved; they do not establish that a later product release could not add it.

How Meta’s UPI Lite announcement differs
Meta’s India newsroom described a separate, forthcoming UPI Lite QR-payment feature for its own AI glasses. In Meta’s announced flow, a user would look at a QR code and say, “Hey Meta, scan and pay”; the company said the payment would use a WhatsApp-linked bank account and be limited to amounts below ₹1,000. Meta characterized the feature as testing or forthcoming, rather than establishing that it was generally available. See Meta’s announcement.
| What was announced | JioFrames | Meta AI glasses |
|---|---|---|
| UPI payment | Not confirmed in Reliance’s announcement | Forthcoming/testing UPI Lite QR payments, according to Meta |
| Payment details | Not stated in Reliance’s announcement | Below ₹1,000; WhatsApp-linked bank account, according to Meta |
| Other announced functions | Multilingual voice assistant, camera capture, live streaming, Jio AI Cloud storage, calls, meetings, music, podcasts, and open-ear audio | Not compared here; Meta’s cited announcement concerns the payment feature |
The distinction matters: a payment feature announced for Meta glasses cannot be attributed to JioFrames. Even Meta’s announcement describes a feature in testing or forthcoming, not proof that it is enabled for every user or model.

What to check before relying on glasses for UPI
- Look for an explicit JioFrames statement naming UPI or payment support; general AI or camera features are not confirmation.
- Check whether the feature is actually available for the specific glasses, account, and region, rather than merely announced or in testing.
- Confirm the payment method, transaction limits, and authentication steps before using it. Those details are not established for JioFrames in Reliance’s announcement.
