Students from Newberry County School District toured Samsung’s washing-machine factory in Newberry, South Carolina, on October 5, 2026, for National Manufacturing Day. They saw how manufacturing, maintenance, quality and engineering work contribute to production—and heard about a Samsung apprenticeship pathway toward tool-making careers.
What students saw at Samsung’s South Carolina factory
Samsung Electronics Home Appliances America (SEHA) hosted the visit at its Newberry factory, where the company makes washing machines. South Carolina Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver joined the students as they toured the facility and spoke with employees across manufacturing, maintenance, quality and engineering. The conversations connected factory-floor work with the technology and skilled labor involved in making appliances in the United States. Samsung’s October 5, 2026 account of the visit describes the event.
Samsung says it has hosted National Manufacturing Day events with Newberry County schools since 2019, presenting them as a way to show students practical applications of STEM and introduce manufacturing careers.

Samsung’s account identifies these departments and the employee conversations, but does not detail specific job titles, daily duties, qualifications or hiring requirements. The takeaway is that a modern factory depends on more than assembly work: it also needs people who maintain equipment, monitor quality and apply engineering skills.
How Samsung describes its apprenticeship pathway
Samsung presented its Mold Shop Apprenticeship Program as a route for employees to progress from maintenance technician positions toward tool-making careers. The company says the program works with the U.S. Department of Labor and South Carolina technical colleges. Tool-making is a skilled-trade direction within manufacturing, but Samsung’s visit report does not state the program’s eligibility rules, length, wages, credentials or current application process. The company’s description therefore outlines a pathway, not a complete guide to applying.

What Samsung reports about the factory and regional footprint
Samsung reported the following figures in its 2026 account. They are company-reported claims; the account does not provide calculation methods for the economic-impact, supplier or jobs figures.

Samsung Executive Vice President and Head of U.S. Public Affairs Cordell Hull said, “The workforce will be one of the defining factors in the next chapter of American manufacturing.” He added that factory visits can help students see advanced manufacturing firsthand, speak directly with workers and understand the range of careers available.

Can other schools visit the factory?
Samsung’s report describes the October 5 event and its history of National Manufacturing Day visits with Newberry County schools, but does not say whether the factory offers public tours or accepts requests from other schools. It does not provide a tour-request process or contact information for arranging visits.
