Final Fantasy VII Revelation may be the largest-feeling entry in the series yet, but current previews do not prove it is the biggest by any objective, franchise-wide measure. Director Naoki Hamaguchi says the trilogy has aimed to scale up with each game, and hands-on reports describe an expansive, vertical world built around the Highwind airship. That is evidence of ambition—not a verified all-time size record.

What “biggest” means for Revelation

There is no single official measure of a game’s size. World area, the number of explorable locations, traversal freedom, campaign length, and the scale of its systems can all produce different answers. The available previews do not give comparable figures for any of those measures across the Final Fantasy series, so they cannot establish that Revelation is definitively the biggest.

The evidence does support a narrower claim: the developers are trying to make the concluding game in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy feel larger than its predecessors through breadth, verticality, and expanded traversal. In an October 5, 2026 interview with Den of Geek, trilogy director Naoki Hamaguchi said, “One of the goals of the series was to scale up with each successive title,” and added, “For Revelation, rather than just making everything feel wide, we really wanted to create this sense of scale and verticality with everything.” Den of Geek’s Tokyo Game Show 2026 interview and preview is based on an early build, not the final game.

How the Highwind shapes exploration

The Highwind appears to be more than a set-piece: the previews describe it as a major tool for moving around the overworld. Den of Geek reports that the party can parachute from the airship into environments. GamingBible says players can land in designated explorable areas, while some zones remain inaccessible or are marked as no-fly areas. That suggests meaningful aerial traversal, but not unrestricted flight over every part of the map.

GamingBible also describes the Highwind as a hub for managing the party, equipment, quests, and activities. The reporting does not establish the full list of functions or how much of the world can be reached directly from the ship. These are observations from a preview build, not a final specification.

What else may add to the game’s scale

Returning mounts and broader traversal

Den of Geek reports that chocobo mounts return alongside the Highwind. The previews do not specify every mount type, how they differ by region, or the total number of explorable areas.

More combat options and party roles

The previews report expanded combat features and a more varied synergy system. Hamaguchi described its purpose this way: “One of the goals of the synergy system is to experience different tactics and refresh the experience.” Den of Geek also reports Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine as new playable party members. In the preview’s account, Cid uses timed-input techniques and has aerial strengths; Vincent can fight at close or long range and temporarily enter Beast Mode, which reduces his health.

Those details point to additional tactical variety, not a measurable increase in world size. The reports do not explain the complete move sets, balancing, or how the systems work across the full campaign.

FITS customization

Den of Geek describes a system called FITS—Function Integrated Tactical Suitwear—that lets players customize characters into four types, tying costume changes to combat roles. Hamaguchi said, “They’re customizable into four different types, rather than just random jobs, using what was already there in the battle system.” He also said the developers avoided calling it a conventional job system because that term would suggest a more rigid structure.

What we can—and cannot—conclude

  • Supported by current previews: the development goal is to increase scale across the trilogy, with particular emphasis on verticality; the Highwind and parachute drops are prominent traversal elements; and the game adds reported combat, party, and customization options.
  • Not established: that Revelation has the largest map, longest campaign, greatest number of locations, or biggest overall scope of any Final Fantasy game. No comparable series-wide measurements are provided.

The most accurate description is that Final Fantasy VII Revelation is shaping up to be the trilogy’s most ambitious-feeling entry, based on early previews and the director’s stated goals. Whether it becomes the franchise’s “biggest” depends on the measure—and cannot yet be verified from the available reporting.
