Capcom has not announced remakes of Resident Evil 5 or Resident Evil 6. Executive producer Jun Takeuchi has said the remake series will eventually reach the era of the numbered games, and that Capcom is already thinking about what to do then. The only officially announced next remake is Resident Evil Veronica, due in 2027.

What Takeuchi actually said

PC Gamer reports that Takeuchi describes the series as running on two tracks. The numbered titles carry the ongoing story, and the remakes let players experience the past. He adds that the remake line will one day catch up with the numbered games’ era, and that Capcom is already considering how to handle that.

That is a statement about long-range planning. He did not name RE5 or RE6. The link to those two games is the reporters’ framing, because they are the next numbered entries a remake line would meet after RE4. GamesRadar’s coverage on September 30 says so directly: the comments stop short of confirming remakes of either game. It also notes that Capcom has been preparing for a crossover gradually, pointing to the references to Umbrella and Spencer and the return of Raccoon City in Requiem.

The quotes, and why they differ

Translations of the Japanese source vary, so treat these as press renderings rather than an official English transcript. PC Gamer quotes Takeuchi as saying: “The current ‘Resident Evil’ series is being developed along two tracks: the numbered titles allow players to experience the ongoing story of the series, while the remake series allows them to experience the past.” It adds: “Someday, the remake series will catch up with the era of the numbered titles, and we are already thinking about what we will do when that happens.”

  • Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst who is introverted and easily scared, representing a new type of character for the Resident Evil series. Grace will experience horror from the same perspective as the player as she learns to overcome her fears throughout the course of the story.
  • For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
  • An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
  • Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.

GamesRadar renders the same point as: “Eventually, the remake series will catch up to the era of the numbered titles, and the mechanisms for that are already being considered.” The wording differs, but the meaning is the same.

Why RE5 and RE6 are the awkward part

The “only problem” in the headline is an editorial judgment. Fans and critics tend to see RE5 and RE6 as the harder games to remake. Takeuchi did not say that, and Capcom has not said anything about how it would approach them. Any claim about gameplay, co-op, story changes or a release window for such remakes is speculation.

Resident Evil 4 - PS5
  • Reawaken a Classic – Resident Evil 4 preserves the essence of the original game, now reconstructed using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine to deliver realistic visuals and additional narrative depth to the iconic story that was not possible at the time of the original release.
  • Modernized Gameplay – The team from 2019’s Resident Evil 2 returns to build upon the series’ modern approach to survival horror. Engage in frenzied combat with the Ganados villagers, explore a European village gripped by madness, and solve puzzles to access new areas and collect useful items for Leon and Ashley’s constant struggle to survive.
  • Overwhelming Hordes – Face hordes of rabid enemies that threaten to overwhelm Leon with even more diverse methods of attack than in the original release.
  • Survive on a Knife’s Edge – Years of intense training have taught Leon new ways to use his knife, helping to even the odds against the unrelenting onslaught of enemies. By parrying enemy attacks, you can avoid debilitating damage and evade lunging enemies seeking to grab Leon and hold him in place. Make smart use of scavenged knives to deliver precise finishing moves on vulnerable enemies, and even use the element of surprise to quietly dispatch unsuspecting foes before they break.

Context: how big the franchise is

  • Capcom reports more than 213 million cumulative Resident Evil game sales as of June 30, 2026. That is a franchise-wide total and says nothing about demand for RE5 or RE6 remakes.
  • Capcom reported on September 10, 2026 that Resident Evil 2 has passed 20 million cumulative worldwide sales. That figure is for RE2 alone.

What to do now

If you want to play RE5 or RE6, play the existing versions. Waiting for an unannounced remake is a gamble with no stated date. If you are waiting for something new, Veronica is the confirmed 2027 remake. Capcom’s next announcement is the thing to watch, since a formal RE5 or RE6 reveal would change this picture. Platform, edition and price details for the originals vary by store and region, so check them with your retailer.
