If an NVIDIA display problem started after a driver update, use Windows Device Manager to restore the previous driver—provided Windows still has it available. You’ll need an administrator account, and you should restart Windows after the rollback.
Roll back the NVIDIA driver in Device Manager

Sign in to Windows with an account that has administrator privileges. Windows requires administrator privileges to roll back or uninstall a driver package.

Open Device Manager: search for it from the taskbar, or right-click Start and select it from the menu.

Expand Display adapters, right-click your NVIDIA adapter, and select Properties.

Open the Driver tab and select Roll Back Driver. If Windows asks why you are rolling back, choose a reason, then select Yes to confirm.

Restart the computer if prompted. Once Windows starts again, check whether the issue that followed the update is resolved.

What to do if “Roll Back Driver” is unavailable
If the button is disabled or missing, Windows does not have a previous driver available through Device Manager’s rollback process. Microsoft explains: “If the Roll Back Driver option is unavailable, Windows doesn’t have a previous driver to roll back to and won’t be able to complete this process.” Repeatedly selecting the button cannot restore a driver Windows no longer has.

Get a compatible driver from an official source
If you need to reinstall or replace the driver, use NVIDIA’s official driver search and select your GPU and Windows configuration carefully. Microsoft advises matching a manually downloaded driver to the Windows version and system architecture, and recommends using the manufacturer’s official site rather than third-party driver-download sites. If you are unsure which driver is right for your computer, consult your PC maker’s support site.
For a notebook, check the notebook maker’s support page for recommended updates. NVIDIA says its GeForce Game Ready and Studio drivers can install on supported notebook GPUs, but the notebook OEM provides certified drivers for its specific models and NVIDIA recommends checking the OEM site for recommended software updates. Consider System Restore only if a suitable restore point exists
System Restore is a broader recovery option, not a one-driver rollback. It can return system files, registry settings, and installed programs to the state they were in at a selected restore point. Restore points may be created automatically during significant events or created manually.

Open Control Panel, go to Recovery, and select the option to open System Restore. You can also run

Choose an appropriate restore point. If available, use Scan for affected programs to review what may change.

Complete the wizard. Windows restarts to apply the restore point.
Because this can affect more than the graphics driver, review the affected-programs list before continuing. Microsoft’s explanation is in Use System Restore.

A flickering screen is not always caused by a graphics driver. Microsoft suggests opening Task Manager and checking whether it flickers along with the rest of the screen. If Task Manager flickers too, a display driver is probably involved; if Task Manager remains steady while the rest of the screen flickers, an incompatible app is a more likely cause. Treat this as a clue rather than a definitive test.

You can also try the graphics-driver reset shortcut Windows logo key + Ctrl + Shift + B. This attempts to reset the graphics driver; it does not roll back or reinstall it.
Windows 10 support status
Windows 10 remains covered by Microsoft’s driver rollback instructions, but its general support status has changed: Microsoft ended free Windows Update software updates, technical assistance, and security fixes for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025.
